AMERICAN CORNER
BNC Library re opened its door for students and English teachers. The library provided services for 80 ESL students during the month of June.The American Corner Coordinator is available twice a week at the BNC library.
Library users learned about the library collection for English teaching and English learners and its audiovisual resources to help them improve listening and pronunciation skills. ESL students were invited to visit American Corner’s main location at the Central Bank Library.

In commemoration International Children Day the
American Corner organized a Book Reading
program for 15 ESL students. Rubenia Borge,
BNC teacher coordinated the program. The
activity started with a song “Head Shoulders
Knees and Toes” and followed by reading aloud.
The students learned new vocabulary,
pronunciation reading and interpretation. BNC
executive director joined the students during the
singing and dancing part of the program.

AMERICAN CORNER
Dr. Reitzel, U.S. Fulbright scholar conducted a workshop for 15 TEFLs at the BNC. The topic was “Listening and Speaking Activities.”
The participants learned how to make a dynamic class to keep students active and how to make an oral presentation without memorizing the contexts.
Dr. Reitzel asked the teachers to read poetry by American Poets: Langston Hughes; Shel Silverstein, Robert Frost and Maya Angelou. The teachers read poems and learned how to read with intonation.
All participants received free printed material and promotional items

AMERICAN CORNER
High school students from Maria Mazzarello school and University of Science and Technology received free English tutoring classes by EimeelCastillo, Alumnae. She helps students with best practices ideas to conduct oral presentations, emphasizing in pronunciation, fluency in speaking and reading comprehension.

Three university students had the opportunity to
learn the basic steps on how to use internet for
academic research, evaluate useful sites for
academic research, select information as well as
how to paste it into a word program. The students
from Polytechnic University thanked American
Corner for its support to students.

AMERICAN CORNER collection includes printed material, audiovisual resources on topics like: American Music, American History, and Biographies.
AMERICAN CORNER has three computers with Internet. These resources are located on the First floor in the Library reading area.
AMERICAN CORNER schedules movie presentations every week, or by visitor’s request.
