Summer Term 2
Communication, language and literacy
There will be lots of opportunities for Gruffalo to develop their
sentence writing during role play, at the ‘message centre’ and during
daily phonics lessons. Children will have opportunities to
tell and perform stories in our daily helicopter story sessions.
We will begin looking at Fairytale, which will include hooks for writing, such as a beanstalk growing in our classroom.
Physical development Children will continue to develop
their gross motor skills by exploring wooden planks, tyres, crates and
sheets Our PE lesson will take place on a Friday afternoon, with a focus on
‘ball skills’ and preparing ourselves for sports day.
With the introduction of woodwork in our classroom, we will learn how
to safely use the tools and equipment.
PSED We will begin to look towards life further on from Gruffalo Class. We
will spend time getting to know Miss Simkins Year 1 teacher and she
will spend some time getting to know us too.
Knowledge and understanding of the world
We will continue to follow children’s interest to determine
exactly what is taught in Gruffalo Class, but we will have an
umbrella topic of fairytales. We will grow our own beanstalk
plants in the classroom.
Expressive arts and design We will continue to encourage
children to express themselves in a variety of ways across the
classroom. The children will consolidate their woodwork skills
which will allow them to create their own models.
Mathematics In our daily Maths lessons, we will
continue to practise and consolidate these key skills:
- Subitising (instantly recognising small quantities).
- Counting forwards and backwards to 20 and beyond.
- How different quantities are can be represented and that all quantities are composed of smaller quantities.
- Comparing and ordering quantities and measures
- Recognising similarities and differences in sorting and matching objects in new contexts.
