The Palliative Care Education and Training Collaborative (PCC4U & PEPA)
Facts about the Collaborative• We have been funded since 2003 to undertake the national
coordination and project management of the Program of Experience in the Palliative Approach (PEPA) and implement the Palliative Care Curriculum for Undergraduates (PCC4U).
• Within PEPA and PCC4U we are focused on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Palliative Care Workforce Development and the National Palliative Care Workforce Action Plan.
The Program of Experience in the Palliative Approach
PEPA Program AimsPEPA aims to enhance the capacity of health professionals to deliver a palliative approach to care by:• Providing clinical placements and other experiential workshop
opportunities for non-specialist health practitioners across rural, remote, and metropolitan settings
• Enhancing linkages between specialist and non-specialist palliative care providers to improve the quality and coordination of care
• Providing resources and development opportunities for host specialist palliative care services to create learning organisations with a commitment to, and skills in, supporting ongoing learning.
Indigenous PEPAUnderpinned by principles of cultural
respect*
• Engaging Indigenous organisations and personnel in the planning, delivery and evaluation of PEPA
• Providing information and training to all staff to ensure the principles of cultural respect are applied
• Communicating in a sensitive way that values cultural difference
• Innovative local models which are reviewed by the PEPA Indigenous Advisory Group(*Mungabareena Aboriginal Corporation, 2004)
