Constructing congruent triangles:
Students will be able:to construct congruent triangles using digital and non-digital
techniques.
Activity:
Draw the following triangle. You will need a compass tool.
Now produce a congruent image (triangle) of ABC using the compass and ruler method.
A B
C
Step 1: Step 1: Find a space to construct the new triangle. Begin with a point and name it D.
Step 2: Measure the distance of side AB with a compass and scribe this with an arc from point D. Draw a horizontal line from D, then label the new point as E.
D E
Step 3: Using the compass again, measure the distance of side BC and scribe with another arc around where C would lie.
DE
Step 4: Measure the distance AC with the compass and use this to scribe a third arc over the second arc. This will identify the top vertex. Connect appropriate points to form the congruent triangle. Label the point F.
D E
F
Conclude: ABC ≡ DEF
