Joshua 1:1-9

The Lord God said to Joshua, “Be strong and courageous”, three times

so it means there is emphasis.

Why?

Because for them to enter and occupy the promise land. There is fight, there is war, and God wants them to win the war successfully.

They have to kill and destroy the inhabitants in the promise land. God wants them to start strong

and finish strong.

In the same way, God is telling us this 2017 that we should be strong

and courageous as well because He will give us our promise lands.

What are God’s Promise to them?

3 I will give you every place whereyou set your foot, as I promisedMoses.

Joshua 1:3

Promise Of Success Every Where We Go.

Joshua 1:4

Promise On Specific Territory To Work On.

5 No one will be able to standagainst you all the days of your life.As I was with Moses, so I will bewith you; I will never leave you norforsake you.

Joshua 1:5

Promise Of His Presence, Protection Tell Them To Do

In Order To Take And Occupy The Promise Land

WHAT ARE GOD’S COMMAND TO THEM?

5 No one will be able to standagainst you all the days of your life.As I was with Moses, so I will bewith you; I will never leave you norforsake you.

6 Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these peopleto inherit the land I swore to theirancestors to give them.

Joshua 1:5-6

9 Have I not commanded you? Bestrong and courageous. Do not beafraid; do not be discouraged, forthe Lord your God will be with youwherever you go.”

Joshua 1:9

Be Strong And Courageous.

8 Keep this Book of the Law alwayson your lips; meditate on it day andnight, so that you may be careful todo everything written in it. Then youwill be prosperous and successful.

Joshua 1:8

Meditate the Word of God.

When God said to Joshua to be strong and courageous, God meant

it to be strong and courageous physically and spiritually.

You can’t be strong and courageous physically but not spiritually, or you can’t be strong spiritually but not

strong physically.

You must be strong and courageous both physically and spiritually so that you can accomplish well what God wants you to accomplish in this life.

The same thing also with us, in 2017 we should be physically and

spiritually strong, so that at the end of the year we could be prosperous

and successful.

God commissions Joshua to do something and that is to be the

successor of Moses and to lead His people and possess the promise land

that God promised to them.

God commissions us also to go and make disciples of all nations. That’s

our mandate. And to do that we should be physically and spiritually

strong.

10 Finally, be strong in the Lord andin his mighty power.

Ephesian 6:10

6 So he said to me, “This is the wordof the Lord to Zerubbabel: ‘Not bymight nor by power, but by mySpirit,’ says the Lord Almighty.

Zechariah 4:6

Physically how can we become strong?

- You must eat healthy foods.- You must have regular exercise.

Spiritually how can we become strong?

8 Keep this Book of the Law alwayson your lips; meditate on it day andnight, so that you may be careful todo everything written in it. Then youwill be prosperous and successful.

Joshua 1:8

Meditate the Word of God.

Carefully Obey The Commands Of The Lord.

13 I can do all this through him whogives me strength.

Philippians 4:13

Why God wants us to be strong and courageous?

(1)God Gives Us

The Work To Do.

The work is too heavy for us and that we should be

dependent on God to do it.

6 Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these peopleto inherit the land I swore to theirancestors to give them.

Joshua 1:6

We will lead people to Him. We will go to every place that God wants it for us.

3 I will give you every place whereyou set your foot, as I promisedMoses.

4 Your territory will extend from thedesert to Lebanon, and from thegreat river, the Euphrates—all theHittite country—to theMediterranean Sea in the west.

Joshua 1:3-5

5 No one will be able to standagainst you all the days of your life.As I was with Moses, so I will bewith you; I will never leave you norforsake you.

Joshua 1:3-5

His Presence will be with us.

In His Presence, there is Protection and Provision.

(2)So That We Will Be Successful

And Prosperous In Everything We

Do.

We have Internal fight and External fight.

We become strong and courageous when we hear

a Word from God.

When they are fighting the Amorites, He reminded his

people on what the Lord has said to him.

25 Joshua said to them, “Do not beafraid; do not be discouraged. Bestrong and courageous. This is whatthe Lord will do to all the enemiesyou are going to fight.”

Joshua10:25

JOSHUA FINISH STRONG

31 Israel served the Lord throughoutthe lifetime of Joshua and of theelders who outlived him and whohad experienced everything theLord had done for Israel.

Joshua 24:31

How can we finish strong?

Start with our faithful relationship with God.

Know Him more, Know His Words,

Apply His words in our lives,Depend on God,

Be faithful with God.
