Why Lip Balm?Sustainability •buy local & organic – support bee keepers•Less shipping to fill a needEntrepreneur skills•develop specific product based on research & design loop •create and maintain a team-based small startup company with real-life competition & consumers

Instructions• Follow the word document

and power point instructions

• All slides must have a picture – you must replace mine! – you may take photos or get them off the internet – you must reference pictures that you take or get – who took it or what site did it come from

• ** if there is more than one question on the slide, break it into multiple slides, each must have an original picture

• Your team must engineer (research, develop) and market your product based on target market survey results

• Each team member needs to be a leader of one or more part of the process

• Each team member must participate in each stage – put names by questions that each person answered – more than one name okay

Technology & Engineering Research

• What is out on the market currently in this category?– What variations are offered?– What is the packaging like?

• What supplies do you need?– Find a variety of recipes

• at least one per team-mate

• What are packaging options– What are the benefits and drawbacks of each?

Target MarketDecide who your target market is and explain why

Develop a survey to find out what they will prefer for :

•colors•qualities•flavors•packaging styles•and what they will pay for it?

SurveyStudents create 10 questions surveys here, but then give them all a standard survey to use so that there is more consistency in their results. See teacher documents for the recommended survey.

Survey Results

Each student should collect 10 surveys from people in their target market, all students should work together to tallythe results and report them here.

• What are the common CATEGORIES of supplies?

• What SPECIFIC SUPPLIES do most recipes have in common?

• What are the supplies that seem to vary most?

Brainstorming

Based on the results of your research and survey, brainstorm combinations that your group would like to propose as a viable product.

Prototype RecipeThe individual recipes should be evaluated to come up with a simple base recipe.

Cost Analysis

• How much does everything cost for a single batch – include labor time

• How many batches can be made in a day?• In a week?• How much do you think you can sell them for?
