Drainage

Including….

It is an increasingly common method of extracting heavy crude oil. It is considered as the main type of thermal stimulation of oil reservoirs. In this technique steam is injected into the reservoir and heat the oil to higher temperature and to thereby decrease its viscosity so that it more easily flows through the formation toward the producing wells

What is Steam Flooding…??

What is Oil Sand….??

Oil sands, tar sands or, more technically, bituminous sands, are a type of unconventional petroleum deposit.

Oil sands are either loose sands or partially consolidated sandstone containing a naturally occurring mixture of sand, clay, and water, saturated with a dense and extremely viscous form of petroleum technically referred to as bitumen.

Oil sands are found in extremely large quantities in CANADA.

Oil Sand….

It is sticky, black and highly viscous liquid or semi-solid form of petroleum.

Naturally occurring bitumen is sometimes specified by the term “Crude Bitumen”.

The Canadian province of Alberta has most of the world’s reserves of natural bitumen, covering 142,000 square kilometres.

What is Bitumen….??

Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage…??

It is an enhanced oil recovery technology for producing heavy crude oil and bitumen. It is and advanced form of steam stimulation in which a pair of horizontal wells are drilled into the oil reservoir, one a few meters above the other. High pressure steam is continuously injected into the upper wellbore to heat the oil and reduce its viscosity, causing the heated oil to drain into the lower wellbore, where it is pumped out

Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage

How It Works….

SAGD technology has several environmental advantages. It creates dramatically less surface disturbance than conventional open-pit mining. However the carbon dioxide emissions are higher due to higher energy consumption in the steam generation process.

More than 90% of the water used will be re-used or recycle.
