What is Geoenvironment
• Environment: Everything that surround us
• Environment is an extremely complex, multi
component, dynamic system which transcends
national boundaries.
• Geoenvironment refers to the uppermost parts
of the lithosphere which is affected by human
activities

Geologi sekitaran
Geologi sekitaran ialah “geologi gunaan”
yang mengabungkan geologi dan alam
sekitar. Aplikasi maklumat geologi ialah
untuk:- menyelesaikan konflik,
mengurangkan kemusnahan alam sekitar
dan memaksimakan keadaan yang
memberikan kebaikan drp penggunaan
alam sekitar.
Environmental Geology
(Keller, EA)
It is the use of geologic
information :--
i) to help us to solve conflicts
in land use;
ii) to minimize environmental
degradation; and
iii) to maximize the beneficial
results of using our natural
and modified environments.

• The application of geology to environmental
problems includes the study of :--
– 1. Natural hazards
• Floods; landslides; earthquakes; volcanic activity
• Minimize loss of life and property (Nyawa dan harta benda)
– 2. Landscapes
• Site selection; land-planning; E.I.A
– 3. Earth materials
• Minerals; rocks; soils
• To determine their potential use and effects to human health
– 4. Hydrologic processes
• Groundwater and surface water
• To evaluate water resources and water pollution problems
– 5. Geologic processes
• Deposition of sediment; the formation of mountains
• To evaluate local, regional and global change8/24/2009 drwzwy-STAG3042
– a) environmental impact assessments (EIAs)
• the impact of long-term production of oil and gas
• The impact from dam construction
– b) environmental hazard investigations
• hillside slumping, landslides, subsidence, etc.,
– c) soil contamination investigations resulting from leaks
• industrial sources of leaks, spills, and accidents,
– d) remediation studies (including bioremediation) of ground-water contamination
– e) other subsurface investigations requiring sampling, interpretation and assessment of hydrogeologic data and hydrochemical and soil analyses.

Environmental geologyFrom Wikipedia
• Environmental geology, like hydrogeology, is a multidisciplinary field of applied science and is closely related to engineering geology and somewhat related to environmental geography.
• They all involve the study of the interaction of humans with the geologic environment including the biosphere, the lithosphere, the hydrosphere, and to some extent the atmosphere

• 1) Engineering Geology is the application of geology to obtain information and understanding of geological structures, materials and processes, as needed for engineering analysis and design.
• 2) Geological Engineering is the application of a combination of geology and engineering science to design, involving rock, soil, groundwater and mineral resources.
• 3) Geotechnical Engineering is the application of the science of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, engineering geology and other related disciplines to engineering and environmental projects (after Morgenstern, 2000).
• 4) Geo-environmental engineering is the application of a combination of geology and engineering science to the solution of environmental problems.
• 5) Environmental geology is the application of geology to obtain information and understanding of geological structures, materials and processes, as needed for the solution of environmental problems.8/24/2009 drwzwy-STAG3042
