Overused and misunderstood, love has become a
synonym for like, enjoy, desire, and want. We love
everything from a new restaurant, to a pair of shoes,
to people we admire. But to really love means more
than just liking someone, or enjoying his or her
company. Love means sacrifice and commitment
and change. It means we give of ourselves so that
someone else will benefit. Love means we act like
God acts.
How can you tell when two people are in love? A
wise woman used to say that you just have to look in
their eyes. Since the eyes were the windows to the
soul, you could see the soul glowing in joy and
happiness. It is more than a passing interest,
physical a&rac'on or a social friendship. Love
changes people, making them happier, more
content and full of hope.
How can you tell when someone loves God? A wise
man named Jesus used to say that you just have to
see what they do. When people love God, they also
love others. They show respect, kindness,
generosity and compassion. It is a love that seeks
the good of all, friend and foe alike. We think and
act as God does, giving of ourselves for the sake of
others. You will know if that love is genuine because
it will change hearts, making others happier, more
content and full of faith, hope and love.

in your prayers. Thank you.
“No gift to your mother can ever
equal her gift to you — life.”
I am sure that all can agree with that anonymous saying. On this Mother’s Day weekend we pay homage to our mother’s — living and deceased — as we thank them for the lives they have given us coupled with countless sacrifices. To each and every mother, especially those of our parish community, we offer the following Irish Blessing along with our prayers and deepest gratitude...
“Tis the month of Mary, Blessed Queen of the May, Mother of God we pray you,
Bless and protect all mothers, On this their special day.”
Last weekend we treated Deacon Greg Bierbaum to a farewell salute as he completed his time among us. By now, Deacon Greg will have arrived home in Colorado Springs, Colorado and is no doubt counting the days (if not the hours and minutes!) to his ordination to the priesthood. He will be ordained on Saturday, May 30. Before leaving us, Deacon Greg asked me to once again express his appreciation to the members of our parish community who have been so encouraging and supportive of him as he completed his formation for the priesthood. He promises to remember us in his prayers and is looking forward to returning sometime in the fall to offer a Mass of Thanksgiving with us. Several people have asked for Deacon Greg’s address. He doesn’t expect to receive his first priestly assignment until he’s been ordained; once he learns of his new parish’s address, he will forward it to me and we will publish it in the parish bulletin. In the meantime, keep him in your prayers! Things will soon quiet down in our parish’s Religious Education Office as we move into the summer months. However, we are already planning for next year! Parents should keep their eyes open for registration material for the 2015-2016 classes. Returning forms by June 30 will be most helpful. God bless!
