Very Rev. Jim Volkert, Pastor / Rev. Yamid Blanco, Associate Pastor
As we near the end of our Lenten
journey, may we continue to remember to
love our neighbors. Keep in mind that
donations to the rice bowl project will
help to feed the hungry, provide drink to
the thirsty, and clothe the naked around
the world. We pray that our Lenten
sacrifices remind us that when we
encounter those in need we are encoun-
tering Christ. Watch the bulletin for
details about rice bowl collections!

A Message from Fr. Jim
Reflections on the Fifth Sunday of Lent
Watching the Olympics a few years ago with my nephews, I can remember watching one of the Award ceremonies. A young man from the United States won a gold medal in wrestling. He was what my nephews would call a “tough guy” and that is why they were so shocked when, during the playing of our National Anthem, he began to cry. And not just him, many other athletes experienced the same emotions during the Award ceremonies. Sometimes the strong, the physically strong and the mentally strong, show their humanity. And sometimes this surprises us be-cause we tend to put particular people in a certain plane that doesn't allow them to show their humanity.
Today in our Gospel, we hear about Jesus, the Son of God, crying at the tomb of Lazarus his friend. It is a very moving scene in the Gospel of St. John. And the reason it's so moving is because Jesus demonstrates His humanity, the tears flowing down the checks of Jesus shows us in a powerful way that Jesus was indeed a man like us in all things but sin. And because of this we know that He understands how we feel in these same situations. But today's Gospel not only demonstrates Jesus’ humanity, it also describes for us the divine power as Son of God that Jesus shared with Lazarus by bringing him to life again. Jesus does not only inspire us by His humanity, He can also em-power us by His divinity. Jesus can touch our lives in a way that no other human could ever touch them. Perhaps it is at those times when we feel our humanity the most that we are in the best place to acknowledge the presence of Jesus in our lives. It could be at the times when we are most aware of guilt and sin in our lives that we experience Jesus coming alive in our hearts and giving us the courage and the strength to change.
As we approach the final weeks of Lent we are invited to once again renew our commitment to the call to holiness that we have received and allow that holiness to strengthen us in our efforts to build the Kingdom of God right here, right now.
May the grace and peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with all of you!
Fr. Jim Volkert
Baptismal Blankets
St. Charles is looking for volunteers to knit or crochet baby blankets. We are starting a new program to provide
baptismal blankets to children baptized at St. Charles. We want our families to know that St. Charles cares about
them. We are interested not only in supporting their spiritual life but in promoting future educational opportuni-
ties at St. Charles School. This evangelical outreach can be a chance to enrich lives and enhance our community
of faith. If you have the time and talent and are interested in participating in this project, please contact Judy
Bartlett at 262-939-0431.
We are also asking people to donate yarn for the blankets. There will be a basket in the back of church for yarn.
Thank you for considering to be a part of this worthy cause!

LIVE THE LITURGY - INSPIRATION FOR THE WEEK As our season of Lent quickly draws to a close, we are reminded
today that God's creative and life giving presence is always at
work, bringing light out of darkness and new life out of death.
The prophet Ezekiel reminds us that God's spirit is within us.
Realizing this allows us to endure not only our eventual physical
deaths but any difficulty, disappointment or crisis we may en-
counter. God's desire to bring all things into loving union with
him is eternal.

Holy Duster Opportunity! The Holy Duster roster is shrinking due to parishioners moving away from Burlington. Help is really needed the third and fourth week of the month. Schedules can be flexible and the work involves approximately two hours a month dusting and vacuuming. A specific area can be chosen (perhaps the Cry Room, Sacristies or one of the entryways.) The dust cloths and vacuum cleaner handles fit a man’s hand too! If you would like to the take the opportunity to help the St. Charles Holy Dusters please call Jackie Heiligenthal, 262-661-4272. Any help that can be given would be greatly appreci-ated!

March 11: Preparation for the Fifth National Encuentro on Hispanic/Latino Ministry. Hispanic Catholics in
the Archdiocese of Milwaukee are preparing for V Encuentro, a national gathering to be held in Dallas in 2018.!Encuentro is a national movement that began in the 1970s. The first Encuentro (encounter) took place in 1972,
followed by meetings in 1977, 1985, 2000 and 2006. Before the national encounters, regional gatherings across
the United States are held, seeking to define issues of concern that are addressed in the national gatherings.
According to an Encuentro fact sheet, “the main goal of the V Encuentro is to discern ways in which the U.S.
church can better respond to the Hispanic/Latino presence.” It also seeks to strengthen the ways in which
“Hispanics/Latinos respond to the call to the new evangelization as missionary disciples.”
A delegation of our Hispanic Ministry went to the Cousin Center in Milwaukee for a leader training session on
Saturday March 11 from 8am to 3pm. There were leaders from all parishes with Hispanic Ministry. Bishop Arturo
Cepeda of Michigan, and Javier Rodriguez of the National Hispanic Board presided the meeting. This meeting
was about conducting missionary initiatives and activities. The National Catholic Gathering of Bishops and Lead-
ers will be September 20-23, 2018, in Dallas, Texas.
