- 2. SpiceJet Airlines SpiceJet is one of the recent entrants of
the domestic Aviation Sector of India. It is promoted by Ajay
Singh, the Kansangra family and Sanjay Malhotra, which began its
services in May 2005. Spicejet Airlines was known as Royal Airways
and was considered to be a reincarnation of ModiLuft. It is a
low-cost airlines based in New Delhi, India. It is the most
profitable airline in the country and the only profitable airline
among NSE/BSE listed companies. It began service in May 2005 and by
2008, it was India's second-largest low-cost airline in terms of
market share. SpiceJet was voted as the best low-cost airline in
South Asia and Central Asia region by Skytrax in 2007. CODES IATA

- 5. History of Spicejet Airline Year History Jun 2010 Spicejet
Airline plans to commence international flights, which is the
earliest date that they are allowed to fly internationally under
the Indian Government's requirements that domestic airlines be
operating for 5 years before they start international flights. 30
Mar 2008 SpiceJet plans to launch flights from Visakhapatnam to
Mumbai, Visakhapatnam to New Delhi, and Visakhapatnam to Hyderabad.
24 Mar 2008 Lufthansa flight LH 753 from Frankfurt to Hyderabad was
scheduled to be the first to land at the new Shamshabad Airport,
but a Spicejet plane crashed the party, arriving 50 minutes ahead
of schedule. SpiceJet flight SG 397 from Ahmedabad to Hyderabad
arrived at 12.01 pm because "the pilot decided to take off early".
17 Mar 2008 Bear Stearns, an ailing US Bank, sells 4% of Spicejets
equity. 15 Feb 2008 The University of Petroleum and Energy Studies
joins hands with Spicejet airline, to provide its middle and junior
management with BBA and MBA courses in Aviation Management.
Selected Spicejet employees are fully sponsored to do the course,
including the costs of travel and accommodation. 10 Feb 2008 For
each return ticket booked on Spicejet Airline's website between the
10th Feb and the 17th Feb, for travel up to the 31st March,
Spicejet gives away a scratch card entitling the holder to a gift
worth Rs. 5000. Gifts (examples of gifts being given away are
holiday packages, digital cameras and air tickets). 29 Jan 2008
Daily flights commence between Bagdogra and Chennai, between
Bagdogra and Kolkata and between Bagdogra and Guwahati. There will
be 6 weekly flights between Bagdogra and Delhi. Jan 2008 Captain
Banerji, a senior Spicejet pilot is forced to resign, after being
caught (on a mobile camera clip shot by the co-pilot whilst on a
flight from Delhi to Goa) smoking in the cockpit. India's

- 6. Year History 23 Jan 2008 Spicejet Airlines ground staff are
sacked as a result of having passed objectionable comments on 21st
Jan 2008 after Swami Avimukteswaranand Saraswati (the successor to
the Shankaracharya of Jyotish) and a sanyasi from Shringeri Peeth
landed on a Kingfisher Airlines flight from Delhi to Varanasi. As a
teenage female Kingfisher Airlines employeee escorted the sanyasis
from the airport, the Spicejet Airlines' ground staff made lewd
comments towards the teenager. When the the seer protested, the
Spicejet employees responded with jeers, enraging his followers. 22
Jan 2008 Spicejet announces plans to purchase 10 Boeing 737-800s,
to be delivered from 2011 onwards. 21 Jan 2008 Raj Singh Hooda is
handed over to police for molesting 4 flight attendants on a
Spicejet flight from Goa to Mumbai, Mumbai to Delhi flight (the
incident occured on the Mumbai to Delhi leg of the flight). Hooda
was allegedly drunk when he boarded the flight. 2007 Skytrax votes
Spicejet as being the best no-frills airline in the Central and
South Asia region. 23 May 2007 Spicejet flies its first flight on
the Delhi to Ahmedabad to Mumbai route. May 2005 Spicejet opens
shop, offering 9000 seats at Rs. 99 each (for the first 99
days).

- 8. In 2005, Spice Jet placed an order for 10 Boeing 737-800
aircraft SpiceJet marked its entry in the Indian skies with 99
fares for the first 99 days, with 9,000 seats available at this
rate. The first of the aircrafts was delivered on February 7, 2006.
2007, the airline owns 13 aircraft of the type Boeing 737-800;
another 17 have been ordered. SpiceJet was voted as the best
low-cost airline in South Asia and Central Asia region by Skytrax
in 2007. Wilbur Ross, a billionaire has made a statement on
15thJuly, 2008 and there he wanted to invest eighty million dollars
in a low cost airline. After hearing this statement from Wilbur
Ross, the board of directors soon accepted this offer and later on
a joint statement was issued by WL Ross & Co and SpiceJet.
2008, it was Indias second-largest low-cost airline in terms of
market share. SpiceJet have been voted the best low fare airline in
the HT MaRS study for 2009. World Travel Market Award for multi-
channel approach in distribution, London in November 2009. Best
Employer Brand Award, for our employee best practices, from the
Employer Branding Institute, Hyderabad in December 2009 It
commenced international operations with flights from Chennai to
Colombo, Sri Lanka on 7th October 2010, and flights from New Delhi
to Kathmandu, Nepal on 9th October 2010. Indian media baron
KalanidhiMaran acquired a major stake (37.7%) in this airline on
June 2010. The Spicejet official website facilitating Spicejet
online booking was awarded Best Website' at the World Low Cost
Airlines Asia Pacific Conference held in Singapore, 2010.
Currently, operating 147 daily flights with 22 aircraft, Spicejet
would raise the fleet strength to 28 by March 2011. By December
2011, it will add another six aircraft. JET, SET, GO
