Coating SystemsCoating Systems is a division within the Schippers Group. The Schippers Group has become one of the largest suppliers for the professional intensive livestock industry. With subsidiary companies in The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Great Britain, Denmark, Switzerland, Russia, The Philippines and Canada. In addition, the Schippers Group has a number of partners with whom we work in close cooperation.
Schippers can supply a total package of goods and services to help you to manage your business. We deliver this total package through our specialized divisions. The Coating Systems division contributes to enhancing the hygiene and health status of businesses in the agricultural sector by conserving building materials by using coated floors and wall systems.
Benefits for every sector
Each sector within the livestock industry has its own requirements in building materials and therefore also it has special requirements as far as coatings are concerned. This could be to raise the hygiene status of your farm, to provide a good anti-slip surface for your animals or a combination of the two. Coating Systems will advise you which systems and products are the most suitable for the floors and walls on your farm. So we have prepared the following information sheets for you:
• Coating Systems “Poultry Industry”• Coating Systems “Pig Industry”• Coating Systems “Cattle Industry”• Coating Systems “Food Industry”
These information sheets describe coatings and coating systems which you can apply yourself. We also have a range of products which need to be applied by a Coating Systems certified application contractor.“MSCon Floor systems”This is a leaflet that shows floor systems which can only be applied by Coating Systems’ certified application contractors.
Coating Systems focuses on advising, sales and development of floor and wall coatings. The Specialist in floor and wall coatings for the livestock industry. For product packages, materials applications and application manual visit our website: www.mscoatingsystems.com

The study was conducted in a livestock building, part of whose floor was treated with an MSE Floorcoat and part was not. A hygienogram was taken in the shed; a total of 24 images were taken, 12 on the untreated concrete and 12 on the treated part. This shows clearly that there are considerably more colony- forming units on the portion of the floor that was not treated with MSE Floorcoat.
Floor (Hygiene) Quality of the floor
Untreated concrete Bad – Very bad
Floor treated with MSE-Floorcaot Good – Very good
Conclusion:
Hygiene graphics show you in an excellent way the state of hygiene of the floor.

The Coating Systems division contributes to bio-security in the livestock industry. Concrete is quite rightly a widely used material in this industry. However, concrete is very susceptible to the effects of acids of all kinds. Also, concrete is a porous material, so it may harbour all kinds of microorganisms.
The ideal solution is to apply an impermeable plastic layer to the concrete. The results of an independent study are shown below.
Prevention is better than cure
4
Preparation of the floor
Floors can be prepared in two different ways:
• Chemical preparation by acidfication of the floor.• Mechanical preparation by grinding or blasting the floor.
Proper preparation ensures that the first layer of the coating system is absorbed into the concrete, to achieve the best possible adhesion.
Acidification of the surface with MS CementexMS Cementex is a highly concentrated product with a phosphoric acid base. Following pressure-washing, this will remove the last vestiges of organic residue from the concrete substrate. It will also remove any loose or poor quality cement from the surface of poured concrete floors, thereby ensuring good adhesion.
The following surfaces can be treated with MS Cementex:• Used concrete floors.• New concrete floor with a weak or very weak cement film.• All kinds of wall surfaces (apply MS Cementex with a back-pack sprayer)
Preparation is done as follows:> Clean the surface with a pressure-washer.> Take all necessary safety precautions> Immediately after pressure-washing, apply the MS Cementex with a watering can (dilute 1: 10) 10 L of solution per 10 m2 surface.> Leave to react for 30 minutes.> Wash the surface with copious quantities of water.> The surface must be completely dry before applying the coating.
Mechanical preparation of substratesNew concrete floors are often mechanically finished to ensure the correct surface finish. As a result of this mechanical finishing (power floated or trowelled) a thick hard cement film is created on the concrete surface.
In this case, chemical etching is no longer suitable, you must mechanically grind the surface. The hard film can be removed by grinding with an MS Diamond disc.
Us the MS Diamond disc with an ordinary angle grinder. The life of the disc will depend upon the hardness of the floor, but it should be between 50 m2 and 100 m2.
An MS Diamond disc can be used on the following surfaces:• New concrete floors (power floated or trowelled)• Used concrete floors (use MS Cementex first)• Old and new walls and cement based screeds with a sealed surface.
NB. Before application:• New concrete floors and screeds should be 28 days old.• Plastered walls should be allowed to dry for 10 days per 1 cm of plaster thickness.• Surfaces must be absolutely dry.
