District Office Decision

The condition of the District Office accelerated the plans for this building…

• Collapse of the veneer wall • Structural Engineer’s Report • 40,000-50,000 square feet of asbestos identified • HVAC system failing • Third floor condition

We were extremely fortunate that this structure was not being used by students. However, based on the condition of our buildings, could something similar happen in one of our student attended buildings…and if it did, then what?

How will you respond to the challenges?

This year’s message is …

The Farmer's Donkey There was an old donkey. One day he accidentally fell into the farmer’s well.. The animal cried for hours as the farmer tried to figure out a way to get him out.

The farmer evaluated the situation and thought to himself that neither the well nor the old donkey was worth the effort to save them. Therefore, he decided to haul dirt to the site to bury the old donkey in the well.

So the farmer called his neighbors and together they started to shovel dirt into the well.

At first, when the donkey realized what was happening, he cried horribly.

Then, to everyone's amazement, he quieted down and let out some happy sounds.

A few shovel loads later, the farmer looked down the well to see what was happening and was astonished at what he saw. With every shovel of dirt that hit his back, the donkey was shaking it off and taking a step up.

As the farmer's neighbors continued to shovel dirt on top of the animal, he continued to shake it off and take a step up. Pretty soon, the donkey stepped up over the edge of the well and trotted off!

Although terribly tired, he saved his own life. He decided to face his adversity positively and not to give up, and thus he won.

The real question should be…

How will WE respond to the challenges?

We need to “STEP UP” together to get through the changes/challenges facing

our growing community.

2016 - Goals Expand blended learning opportunities to other buildings.

Draw attention to the aging facilities.

Develop a viable proposal for a long-term solution to the overcrowded situations

in our buildings.

Strengthen and build new relationships with the City of Pataskala, Etna Township and the other area townships within the SWL School District

Expand the College Credit Plus (CC+) course offerings at the high school.

Develop a Career Field Pathway with C-TEC at the high school in Science and

Engineering (Industrial Arts class on steroids).

Provide more opportunities for our gifted students.

We must never give up on the things that will make us better, even if it

seems to be difficult or challenging …

“When everything seems to be going against you, remember that the

airplane takes off against the wind, not with it.”

- Henry Ford
