Sources  of Water1.Salt  water from seas and oceans

- most of the water that covers the earth’s surface is ocean water. There are many minerals in the oceans, but salt is the most common . Salt comes from minerals that are carried down into the seas and oceans. This is the reason why ocean water is salty. ( when salt water in a basin is placed , water evaporates into the air, the salt remains in the basin

Sources  of Water1. Salt  water from seas and oceans

- Scientist say that the ocean produces 805 of the oxygen we breathe. This is possible because of planktons, the tiny –releasing organisms that live in the oceans  and seas.

- Seawater is the habitat of aquatic plants and animals

Sources  of Water2. Fresh water from rivers , lakes , and ponds

 - it does not contain salt

- It is rainwater that flows from     land into streams and rivers.- It is usually used for cleaning,       washing, bathing,      and other       household chores

Sources  of Water2. Fresh water from rivers , lakes , and ponds

 - it is easily become polluted because they  are open.

- People can throw domestic and industrial wastes into it

Groundwater- Is kept in a closed container called the water table.

- This condition prevents it from becoming dirty

- It is safe from domestic wastes

- It is safe from poisonous chemicals

Groundwater

- It is safe source of water. Considered the cleanest water and contains plenty of dissolved minerals that the human body needs.

Groundwater- It is a safe and direct source of water for cooking and drinking.

- Most of the subdivisions and residential areas that do not have public water facilities get their water from groundwater. They usually have deep well that provide them water for their needs

Groundwater- Is kept in a closed container

called the water table.- This condition prevents it

from becoming dirty- It is safe from domestic

wastes- It is safe from poisonous

chemicals

Water in the air

- Water moves from the air to the land, and from the land to the air. This movement of water between the air and land is called water cycle .

Water in the air

- Water cycle is a very important cycle.

- It goes on all the time. Without it , life on Earth would be impossible

Uses of water

Generalization

• Water covers about three-fourths of the earth’s surface.

• Water comes from different sources. The different kinds of water are: salt water from seas and oceans; fresh water from rivers, lakes , and ponds; ground water beneath the earth’s surface; and water in air.

Valuing

• Water conservation

EvaluationA. Write YES if the statement is correct and NO

if it is not. (p.302-A)

B. Answer the following.

1. What are the uses of water to living things?

2. Why is water cycle important?
