Society for News Design Names Facebook Best-DesignedDigital Site

Perhaps validating Facebook co-founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg's vision of turning News Feedinto a personalized newspaper, the winner of the best-designed digital site, from the Society forNews Design, was none other than Facebook.

SND announced the award at its 37th annual workshop at the Newseum in Washington, D.C., withthe social network joining the four winners for world's best-designed newspapers:

The judges for the digital award were Fernando Diaz of the Center for Investigative Reporting, TedIrvine of Vox Media and Martina Schories of Sueddeutsche Zeitung.

SND said in declaring Facebook the winner:

From desktop to mobile to applications, this year's winner works. Everywhere. On anything. Itprovides a richer news experience than any one "site." It is redefining "community" by evolving ourrelationships with the news and each other. We must not only embrace this shift, but learn from itand evolve our organizations accordingly. It is the platform that you love, or hate, or love to hate,but increasingly cannot live without. This would not be possible without world class design.
