Whileundertakingallprojectandassociatedprocurementactivityonthebasisofourcodeofconduct,HutchinsonBuildershasadeepcommitmenttoachievinganumberofspecificsocialoutcomesthroughitsconstructionservices.
Indigenous Participation
HutchinsonBuildersisdedicatedtotheengagementandinclusionofAboriginalandTorresStraitIslandercommunities.PartofourfuturedirectionistoestablishHutchinsonBuildersasthecompanyofchoiceforthedeliveryofbuildinginfrastructureinandaroundAustralia’sIndigenouscommunitiesandanemployerofchoiceforIndigenousAustralians.Currently3.7%ofourworkforceidentifiesasAboriginaland/orTorresStraitIslander(abovethenationalpopulationrate),with8%ofourapprenticesidentifyingasIndigenous–doublethenationalrate.HutchinsonBuildershasanapprovedIndigenousTraining,EmploymentandSupplierPlaninaccordancewiththeIndigenousOpportunitiesPolicy(IOP)withtheDepartmentofEducation,EmploymentandWorkplaceRelations.
Training and Employment Opportunities
ProvidingrealisticandsustainableemploymentopportunitiesisafocusofHutchinsons’trainingandemploymentprograms.Weworkcloselywiththelocalcommunitiesinwhichourprojectsareexecutedandensureaclosepartnershipwithlocalemploymentandtrainingserviceproviders,suchasthosecontractedundertheRemoteJobsandCommunitiesProgram(RJCP).Hutchies’willingnesstoengagewithlocalcommunitiestonegotiateasolutionthatmeetsspecificlocalneedshasrepeatedlydeliveredcommercialandsocialoutcomesaboveandbeyondexpectation.
HutchinsonBuildersprovidesaccreditedtrainingthroughourownawardwinningregisteredtrainingorganisation,theGoldCoastSchoolofConstruction(GCSC).WearecurrentlyregisteredtodeliverCertificateIandIIinConstructionandCertificateIIIinCarpentry.
Ourpre-apprenticeshipcoursesincludealifeskillsprogram,whichhasprovedessentialtothesuccessofaspiringapprenticesfromdisadvantagedgroups.Theprogramprovidesliteracyandnumeracysupport;healthandfitnesseducation;communicationandinterpersonalskills;andworkplaceawareness.TheprogramalsoincludesaCertificate1inConstruction(includingWhiteCard)andStructuredWorkplaceLearning(on-siteworkexperience).
