What is Child Labor?•Interferes with education•Often leads to physical harm or health risks•No clean water•Exposure to dust clouds•Eat food found in garbagedumps•Bathes in dirty water•Should not be forced to work like this
Types of Child Labor
• Types include: • Sexual exploitation• Dangerous labor• Soldiers• Trafficking• "The United Nations estimates that
approximately 1.2 million children are trafficked internally or externally each year" (Manheimer).
Mark Kwadao
• Sold into labor only to earn little money
• Works for 14 hours a day seven days a week
• Even the adults call the work dangerous
• ''I was beaten in the house. I can't remember what I did, but he caned me,'' (Lafraniere)
Efforts Towards Freedom
• “In 2003, Nigerian police rescued 194 malnourished children from stone quarries north of Lagos” (Lafraniere).
• Police freed 644 children from trafficking in Burkina Faso
• No school fees• Loans given to families
