Shows That Hit Home ...
The LandStory about a sixty-something farming couple John and Mary Lou Martin that have a real-world marriage with an uncertain future. Just as the changing seasons dictate when to plant and when to harvest, the ways in which John and Mary Lou navigate this new terrain will ultimately determine their yield. The Land was made with the cooperation of many local farmers, small-town businesses, and bankers. Although the film deals with very real and present problems, it is suitable for most ages. Virtually everyone who has seen the film has been captivated by its heartfelt message of hope. The ending credits feature a graphic for the National Suicide Hotline.
Filmed entirely on location in rural Kansas and Missouri
Both films “The Land” and “The Tree” were written, produced, photographed, edited, and directed by 60-something filmmakers Mary Settle Pruitt and Stephen Wallace Pruitt of
Kansas City.
The TreeInspired by an actual friendship between the director’s mother and his mother’s best friend. ‘The Tree’ is a poignant, heart-warming story about an 88 year-old widow (Dorothy Trapp) who takes a road trip from Wamego, KS, back to Terre Haute, Indiana, to visit her oldest and dearest childhood friend.
This film deals with extremely important issues involving aging and independence and the treatment and value of senior citizens in American society.
