These pictures are a small sample of the live music scene in Sioux Falls. I took these photos without using flash. I also like creating promo packages for bands.

P r o m o P a c k a g e s

One day I was talking to a member of one of the local bands about promo packages and it inspired me to create one. I started with making a DVD for the band. I shot video of the band at one of their concerts which I then edited using Adobe Premiere and After Effects. Then I made a layout of the for the cover and the DVD insert. I used the band’s logo, which was provided by the band, for the color palette for all the pieces. I used InDesign for designing the pieces and layouts. After I was done editing editing the video, I created the DVD cover and insert. After I made the pieces, I took photos of the band at another concert and added then to the pieces. I made two versions of all the pieces, one brown and the other was silver.

49

After I created the cover, I started working on the insert by placing the logos, the information that the band provided me, the bios and list of the artists that they cover, along with the pictures that I took of the band on the insert for the DVD.

50

When the band was telling me about their plans for sending out DVDs to clients, I thought about audio discs. I measured a standard CD cover and used the theme of the brown gradient, the silver gradient, and the photo from the DVD cover to keep the theme consistent.

For the inside of the insert, I used a gray background with B&W photos of the band’s gear that I took at one of the concerts and color photos of the individual members of the band. I made the color photos big enough for the band to sign if they want to hand out the CDs at their shows and people want them to sign it.

51

After I created the cover/insert, I made a tray card for the band again using the same colors with a list of the songs on the tray. I also showed the band how to edit the information so they could change the songs if they wanted to.

The inside of the tray card I used a B&W photo of the band’s concert set up that I took when I was taking pictures of their individual gear for the insert.

52

I asked the band if there was anything else that they would want in the package and they suggested a postcard with dates of upcoming shows. I used my own photo and with the band’s logo on it for the front of the postcard.

On the back of the postcard, I put upcoming dates of the band and their contact information.

53

I made three different types of VIP passes, a label for both DVD and CD, a ticket, and a flyer sp when I was finished, I had made around 12 pieces for the promo package. I showed the members of the band how they can edit everything on it from updating the photos to changing the name of the songs of the tray card. I also showed them that they could use the items for templates if they wanted to use them for other projects.
