INDICATORS AND TERRITORIAL STRATEGIES

3

INDICATORS AND TERRITORIAL STRATEGIES

• Territorial Strategies – Orientations for future development based on a common future

• How do we translate this vision into tangible results?

4

• GDP, quality of life, cohesive society… But are they the results of a territorial strategy?

TERRITORIAL STRATEGY OF NAVARRE

• Based on 6 principles

• Results first evaluation 2000-2005

• Abstract figures, not comparable with other regions, no commitment

• No translation into policies “on the ground”

INDICATORS FOR TERRITORIAL POLICIES

• New proposal: translation into indicators measuring outcomes of “territorial policies”

• Used for evaluation of all instruments of spatial planning (territorial strategy and subregional spatial plans)

DEMO

CONCLUSIONS

• Developing indicators for territorial policies require serious involvement from politicians.

• Danger of overload of information.

22

• Data availability remains low and quality and formats are still diverse.

• Statistical information outside SDI’s becomes and increasing problem.

CONCLUSIONS

• Problem in defining the appropriate scale of study for different issues.

• Integration towards SITNA/IDENA.

23

• Implementation in other regions: valid application of the conceptual framework/ adaptation to data availability.

CONCLUSIONS

Thank you for your attention!!
