Sight Word “Flashcards”

Sight words are words strong readers know by sight, automatically. Sight words are among the most frequently used words in text, and often do not follow regular phonic rules. Therefore, repeated practice to gain automaticity on a large bank of sight words can greatly improve a reader’s fluency.
How should I use this?

• The primary way to practice sight words with this program is to have the practicing student sit at a computer with a student partner or parent volunteer (to ensure accuracy) and run the file as a slideshow, saying the word/text aloud, then clicking on to the next slide, and so on.
• Accompanying practice methods at the end of this file include: printer-friendly versions of the main slides from the slideshow to create a practice booklet, as well as printable flash cards of each word from the set.
