Tell Me The Story

Make Me Care

In 1985, Rotary made a promise to the children of the world that

Polio would be totally eradicated.

In 1988 the Global Polio Eradication Initiative was started.

Through the work of Rotary International and our partners, there are now only three countries remaining where the wild polio virus is endemic:

• Afghanistan• Nigeria • Pakistan

The estimate to eradicate Polio by 2018 is $5.5 billion. $5 billion has been collected or pledged toward

the ultimate goal.

What Can You Do?

• You and every member of your club can donate.• Through 2018, the Bill & Melinda

Gates Foundation will offer a 2 to 1 match on donations (up to $35 million per year). Every $1.00 donated becomes $3.00.

The District PolioPlus committee this coming year will work actively and closely with each club in the District.

• We are available as a resource for you.• We are available to present programs to your club.• We will work with you on fundraisers

The 2015-2016 PolioPlus committee members are:

• Ron Mabry, PDG-Chair, Linden RC-Area 1• Pat Combs, PDG-Bristol VA-TN RC-Area 12• Judy Mosedale, Past President, Staunton RC-Area 4• Bert Spetzler, President, Salem RC-Area 8• Don Butler, Past President, Winchester RC-Area 1

The Polio virus spreads easily and quickly

Polio was eradicated in the United States in 1979 but Polio

reestablishing in the United States is literally 1 plane ride away.
