Asaprofessionalmusician,Dr.Stevenshada15-yeartenureasviolistwiththeTulsaSymphonyOrchestraandhasplayedwiththeAlabamaSymphonyOrchestra,HuntsvilleSymphonyOrchestra,WichitaGrandOpera,TulsaPhilharmonic,TulsaOperaOrchestra,CantonSymphonyOrchestra,andAkronSymphonyOrchestra.HehasheldesteemedpositionsintheAspenMusicFestivalOrchestra,theWintergreenMusicFestivalOrchestra,andtheColoradoSpringsMusicFestivalOrchestra.HehasbeenafeaturechambermusicianintheAmeropaInternationalChamberMusicFestivalinPrague,andinMarch2010,heper-formedinCarnegieHall’sWeillRecitalHallthroughDistinguishedConcertsInternational,NewYork.

The Shoals Symphony at UNAisapartnershiporganizationundertheauspicesoftheUniversityofNorthAlabamaandsupportedbytheShoalsSymphonyAssociation.TheAssociationisfundedbythegenerosityofindividualandcorporatesponsors,contributionsbyalumniandfriends,grants,andticketsales.TheSymphonyencompassestheperfectbalanceofUNAfacultyandrisingstudents(majorsandnon-majors),aswellasareaprofessionalmusicians.Dedicated,enthusiasticmusiciansareselectedbyopenaudition.

EverycollegestudentintheShoalsSymphonyatUNAreceivesaperformanceawardtohelppaytuition.TheShoalsSymphonyAssociationisdedicatedtoencouragingareastudentsthroughthedevelopmentoftheUNAHonorOrchestra(9-12grades)andtheUNAStringProject(allages).

TheShoalsSymphonyatUNAbeganasagroupoflocalplayerswantingtomake musictogether.Ithasgrownandevolvedintoasemi-professionalregionalorchestraandisrecognizedassuchbytheAlabamaStateCouncilontheArts.Weinviteyoutoenjoythisyear’sperformancesaswewelcomeDr.DanielStevenstothepodiumfortheSymphony’s34thseason.
