Welcome! We are happy that you have chosen to join us today. Temple Emanu-El is an exciting Conservative congregation that has been a strong Jewish presence in Providence for nearly one hundred years. We take great pride in our long history of being a traditional, yet progressive and inclusive community. We strive to meet the needs and deepen the experiences of all who come through our doors. In order to appreciate Shabbat fully, we ask you to embrace the experience of being unplugged for the duration of your time with us today.
Our community offers a variety of worship styles to address the ways our members and friends feel most comfortable in prayer. We hope that you will explore the spiritual dimensions of all the services that take place here, and find one that feels best. Many of our members even enjoy attending a different service each Shabbat.
In addition to meaningful prayer, Shabbat is also a time to connect with friends and family, or make new friendships, while enjoying good food. Everyone is invited to the Kiddush luncheon following all the services where our community comes together to enjoy Shabbat and good company. Our clergy and congregants are eager to know you!
We hope that you have an enjoyable and meaningful Shabbat experience with us.

At Temple Emanu-El, we seek to fashion an atmosphere of peace and tranquility on the Sabbath. To help create this environment throughout the Temple, we refrain from writing, taking photographs, texting, and using cell phones. Please join us in observing these traditions as we make Shabbat a sacred experience for us all.

Dear Temple Emanu-El Families and Guests:
As Dorothy said in The Wizard of Oz, “There’s no place like home.” Temple Ema-nu-El is delighted that so many of our families see the shul as an extension of their home. However, as the prophet Isaiah proclaimed, in describing the Temple:
םימעה־לכל ארקי הלפת־תיב יתיב יכ...“...For My House shall be called a house of prayer for everyone.”
In an effort for our shul to be a spiritual and physical home for everyone, we ask for your assistance in ensuring that all of our members are safe and that the synagogue property is respected.
We are pleased to introduce our Shabbat M’nuhah v’Simhah Initiative: A way of cultivating Shabbat Tranquility and Joy. Specifically, we ask you to:
Walk: Enjoy not needing to runFocus: Cut through the noise of the week by speaking softly and listening more closelyUnplug: Turn off electronic devices to encourage better in-person conversationsPlay: Delight in Shabbat-friendly board games, cards, and puzzlesConnect: Catch up with friends from different schools and neighborhoodsDignify: Dress in a way that recognizes the sanctity of ShabbatGive Thanks: Seek ways to offer gratitude to those around you
Parents and caregivers: In addition to the aforementioned requests, to ensure the safety and security of your children in the building, we ask that:
» A parent or designated caregiver should remain on the same building level as the children for whom they are responsible at all times
» Level A: Library, Chapel, and Offices» Level B: Vestry, Sisterhood Lounge, Playroom, Meeting House, and Meeting House Foyer» Level C: Main Sanctuary » Level D: Goldberg Center
» Children should only leave the building if they are accompanied by a grown-up» Our staff and the police officer on duty should be the only ones to let people into the building
We are all responsible for each other, but it is particularly important to supervise any children in your care while you are in the building.
Thank you in advance for working together in making our synagogue a joyous, safe, secure, and family-friendly environment where all ages are welcome.
B’shalom, Temple Emanu-El Staff
