On the way to the bus stop before school, Barry found a moth struggling in a puddle of water on the sidewalk. He picked it up and put it in the dry grass, in the parking lot at school he saw a worm baking in the sun, and he carried it over the bushes, where it quickly dug into the soil. In homeroom Barry was on the Pet Patrol. He cleaned the hamster cage the turtle tank, the fish bowl and the bird cage two times a week.

At lunchtime, Barry stopped some boys who were going to step on a spider. Barry picked the spider up with a piece of paper and carried it outside and let it go. At home Barry had a cage full of mice he caught in the kitchen with a clever trap. He had stopped his mother from using mouse poison on them. He also had a jar full of spiders he had rescued from the bathtub.
