The Empire State Building is topped by a mooring mast for dirigibles. However, only one such ship ever docked there. That took place on September 16, 1931. The idea was later scrapped because of safety concerns.

Animal FrolicContinued from
Page 24 pm. To folks in the 21st century spring-time means warm-er weather, flowers blooming and the re-turn of robins. In the early 1800s it meant fresh greens became available, a real treat after a bland winter diet. The kitchen gar-den was planted with such things as peas, onions, beets and car-rots. Chickens started laying eggs again and it was also when the animals on the home-stead had their babies. At Farm Animal Frol-ic we celebrate the renewal of life that comes with the season of spring. Meet the baby farm animals up close and personal. See kid goats and lambs frolicking about. If you’ve ever wonder where the saying “two shakes of a lamb’s tail” came from you can see the reason for yourself. Chicks will be peep-ing away and some will be hatching in incubators so visitors can watch them crack out of their shells. There will be a new calf for the children to meet and guests of all ages will laugh at the ducklings as they play in the water. All the mommies of the babies will be on hand as well, keeping a close watch on their young, so folks will
get to meet them, too, and learn something about their role on the
farm. Our Clydesdale draft horses, Gunther and Wilhelm, will take
you on a wagon ride to the ice harvest pond and back. In the lower
barn make sure to say “Howdy” to Janie, our mule, who doesn’t get
to pull the wagon and sometimes feels left out. That’s where you
will also find theAnimal Frolic

Page 4 piglets, always a live-ly bunch. In addition to the farm animals there are plenty of other fun activities. Twice a day there is a special chil-dren’s show where youngsters can enjoy puppet shows or sto-rytelling. There are opportunities to play old fashion games, jump in the hay or try the Fish Pond. Our fo-cus area for 2019 is the “Pig Pen” where folks can learn some pig lore, play a game and make a craft. Kathy Uhler, from the Pocono Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, will present a show on local wildlife on Saturday May 18th at 12:30 and 2:00. New at Frolic this year is the U.S. Detachment of Engineers Civil War re-enactors who will talk about map making on May 18th and 19th. Also, new to Frolic is the PA Wood-Mobile here on May 25th with an awesome display of local trees and examples of items made from wood. Sheep shearing will take place on Saturday May 25th throughout the day. The school marm will offer pre-sentations in the One Room Schoolhouse
on both Sundays. The outdoor brick bake oven will be in oper-ation during all four days of the event mak-ing homemade bread and cookies. There is nothing more lovable than
baby animals, and adults, as well as chil-dren will get a kick out of a visit to Farm Animal Frolic. This is a wonderful oppor-tunity to learn about farms, farm animals and to spend a day in

Storms And Flooding Require A Fast,
Effective Mold And Odor Solution
(NAPSI)—Storms and flooding are re-sulting in widespread occurrences of mold, mildew and associ-ated foul odors. The CDC and FEMA both
advise the need to treat flooded struc-tures as soon as pos-sible to help prevent mold development. Star brite’s Perfor-macide® is a viable
treatment for mold control; the EPA-reg-istered product uti-lizes chlorine dioxide (ClO2) technology to eliminate mold, mil-dew and associated smells. Applied as a spray, Performac-ide® provides hospi-

MRSA, E. coli, HIV-1, salmonella and nor-ovirus (see package

Choosing Stain ColorContinued from
Page 12 is surprisingly flexi-ble when it comes to color. Whether you’re refinishing your floors or cabinets, restoring a fine piece of furniture or creating a new look distressing an existing piece, wood stain can enhance the beauty of the wood and add to your style. From traditional colors such as wal-nut or oak, to trendy espresso or weathered gray, you can choose from a variety of wood stains or create your own custom colors by mixing stains. The ex-perts at the Minwax Company have tips to help: • Each species of wood accepts stain differently. A dark walnut stain will look different on pine than
on cherry. Test the stain on an inconspic-uous area of the wood first to see the true col-
or. • Use a pre-stain wood conditioner to prevent streaks and blotches and ensure the wood absorbs the stain evenly. • For beautiful, even color, thoroughly stir—not shake—the can to distribute pig-ments that may have settled on the bottom. • If you create a
custom color, measure each shade carefully and write it down so you can re-create it. • For an antique or distressed look, lay-er lighter and dark-er stain colors. Once the stain has dried, lightly sand away the top layer in different spots and then protect the piece with a clear finish. See the Min-
wax Pinterest board “Distressed Furniture Projects” for more in-formation.
Fennel is one of our oldest cultivated plants and was much used by the Romans. Gladiators consumed fennel prior to battle to make them fierce, while Roman women ate fennel to prevent obesity.
