Sermon notes @ http://bible.com/e/138W

O, Holy NightO, Holy night, the stars are brightly

shining;

It is the night of our dear Savior’s birth.

Long lay the world in sin and error pining,

‘til He appeared and the soul felt its worth

A thrill of hope, the weary soul rejoices,

For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.

Fall on your knees. Oh, hear the angel voices!

O night divine! O night when Christ was born!

Led by the light of faith serenely beaming,

With glowing hearts by His cradle we stand.

So led by light of a star sweetly gleaming;

Here came the wisemen from Orient land.

The King of Kings lay thus in lowly manger;

In all our trials born to be our friend.

He knows our need, to our weakness is no stranger.

Behold your King! Before Him lowly bend!

Truly He taught us to love one another,

His law is love and His gospel is peace.

Chains He shall break, for the slave is our brother.

And in His name all shall oppression shall cease.

Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we.

Let all within us praise His holy name!

Christ is the Lord! O, praise His name forever!

His power and glory evermore proclaim!

His power and glory ever more proclaim!

Come Thou Long Expected Jesus

Come Thou long expected Jesus,

Born to set Thy people free.

From our fears and sins release us.

Let us find our rest in Thee.

Israel’s strength and consolation;

Hope of all the earth Thou art;

Dear desire of every nation;

Joy of every longing heart

Born Thy people to deliver;

Born a child and yet a King;

Born to reign forever;

Now Thy gracious kingdom bring!

By Thine own eternal Spirit

Rule in all our hearts alone.

By Thine all-sufficient merit,

Raise us to Thy glorious throne.

Born Thy people to deliver;

Born a child and yet a King;

Born to reign forever;

Now Thy gracious kingdom bring!

His Be the Victor’s NameHis be the Victor’s name,

Who fought the fight alone;

Resplendent saints no honor claim,

His triumph was their own.

Trod sin and death beneath His feet,

As He was trodden down.

Through weakness and defeat

He won the conqueror’s crown.

Oh, love incomprehensible,

Made Thee bleed for me!

The Judge of all hath suffered death

To set the prisoner free!

He laid the power of Satan low;

By light, the dark overthrew;

Bowed to the grave – destroyed it so;

And death, by dying, He slew.

Oh, love incomprehensible,

Made Thee bleed for me!

The Judge of all hath suffered death

To set the prisoner free!

Bless, bless the Conqueror slain –

Slain in His victory –

Who lived, who died, who lives again

in glorious majesty

MEANING (LESS):

“Relevant & Reverent Worship”

Ecclesiastes 5:1-7Sermon notes @ http://bible.com/e/138W

Ecclesiastes 5:1-7Guard your steps when you go to the house of

God. To draw near to listen is better than to offer the sacrifice of fools, for they do not know that they are doing evil. 2  Be not rash

with your mouth, nor let your heart be hasty to utter a word before God, for God is in heaven

and you are on earth. Therefore let your words be few. 3 For a dream comes with much

business, and a fool's voice with many words.

4 When you vow a vow to God, do not delay paying it, for he has no pleasure in fools. Pay

what you vow. 5 It is better that you should not vow than that you should vow and not pay. 6 Let

not your mouth lead you into sin, and do not say before the messenger that it was a mistake.

Why should God be angry at your voice and destroy the work of your hands? 7 For when

dreams increase and words grow many, there is vanity; but God is the one you must fear.

Gospel Application:1) Do we approach our Holy God with

Reverence?

2) Do we know we can approach the throne of grace with confidence through Jesus?

3) How will the Gospel cause us to live for Jesus everyday and reminding each other of this as the only Hope for the World?

Do this in remembrance of me…

2 Corinthians 9:7Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion,

for God loves a cheerful giver.

1 Corinthians 11:23-26For I received from the Lord what I also

delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, 24 and

when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, “This is my body which is for you. Do this

in remembrance of me.” 25 In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup

is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of

me.” 26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's

death until he comes.

Rock of AgesRock of ages, cleft for me,

let me hide myself in Thee;

Let the water and the blood,

from Thy wounded side which flowed,

Be of sin the double cure;

save from wrath and make me pure.

Not the labor of my hands

can fulfill Thy laws demands;

Could my zeal no respite know,

could my tears forever flow,

All for sin could not atone;

Thou must save, and Thou alone.

Nothing in my hands I bring,

Simply to Thy cross I cling;

Naked, come to Thee for dress;

Helpless look to thee for grace;

Foul, I to the fountain fly;

Wash me, Savior or I die.

While I draw this fleeting breath,

When mine eyes shall close in death,

When, at last, I – fully known –

See Thee on Thy judgment throne,

Rock of Ages, cleft for me,

Left me hide myself in Thee

Left me hide myself in Thee

Left me hide myself in Thee

Left me hide myself in Thee

O Come, O Come EmmanuelO come, o come, Emmanuel,

and ransom captive Israel.

That mourns in lonely exile here

Until the Son of God appears.

O come, Thou Rod of Jesse, free

Thine own from Satan’s tyranny.

From depths of Hell Thy people save

And give them victory o’er the grave.

Rejoice! Rejoice!

Emmanuel shall come to thee, O Israel.

(x2)

O come, Thou Day-Spring, come and cheer

our spirits by Thine advent here.

Disperse the gloomy clouds of night

And death’s dark shadows put to flight.

Rejoice! Rejoice!

Emmanuel shall come to thee, O Israel.

(x2)

O Come, Thou Key of David, come,

And open wide our heavenly home.

Make safe the way that leads on high,

And close the path to misery.

Rejoice! Rejoice!

Emmanuel shall come to thee, O Israel.

(x2)

Shall come to thee, O Israel.

Shall come to thee, O Israel.

Hark the Herald Angels SingHark the herald angels sing,

“Glory to the newborn King!

Peace on earth and mercy mild;

God and sinners reconciled.”

Joyful all ye nations rise.

Join the triumph of the skies.

With angelic hosts proclaim:

“Christ is born in Bethlehem.”

Hark the herald angles sing,

“Glory to the newborn King.”

Christ by highest heav’n adored –

Christ the everlasting Lord!

Late in time behold Him come;

Offspring of a virgin’s womb.

Veiled in flesh the Godhead see.

Hail the incarnate Deity!

Please as man with man to dwell;

Jesus, our Emmanuel.

Hark the herald angles sing,

“Glory to the newborn King.”

Hail the heaven-born Prince of Peace!

Hail the Son of Righteousness!

Light and life to all He brings,

Risen with healing in His wings.

Mild He lays His glory by.

Born that man no more may die.

Born to raise the sons of earth.

Born to give them second birth.

Hark the herald angles sing,

“Glory to the newborn King.”

Come desire of nations, come.

Fix in us Thy humble home.

Rise the woman’s conquering seed.

Bruise in us the serpent’s head.

Adam’s likeness, now efface;

Shine Thine image in his place.

Second Adam from above,

Reinstate us in Thy love.

Hark the herald angles sing,

“Glory to the newborn King.”

Second Adam from above,

Reinstate us in Thy love.

Hark the herald angles sing,

“Glory to the newborn King.”

Joy to the WorldJoy to the world, the Lord is come!

Let earth receive her King;

Let every heart prepare Him room,

and Heaven and nature sing;

and Heaven and nature sing;

and Heaven – and Heaven, and nature sing!

Joy to the earth, the Savior reigns!

Let men their songs employ

While fields and floods, rocks, hills, and plains

repeat the sounding joy;

repeat the sounding joy;

repeat – repeat the sounding joy!

He rules the world with truth and grace,

and makes the nations prove

the glories of His righteousness,

and wonders of His love;

and wonders of His love;

and wonders – wonders of His love!
