Self Storage Tips for Household Items

When packing toys away, it’s best to fill boxes completely to save space. Be sure that you don’t make the boxes too heavy, or they could break down and bust apart when handling.

Storing similar toys together such as stuffed animals, blocks or children’s books makes locating and labeling much easier.

If you don’t have a garage or your basement can’t accommodate the extra space, consider storing away your lawn mowers, rakes, trash cans and leaf blowers in self storage.

Before moving mechanical items into storage, such as lawn mowers or weed eaters, be sure to drain any fluid. Flammable gas and oil inside the mowers is dangerous and prohibited, and we ask that you take the extra precaution to remove it.

Fabric items such as bedding, linens and drapes are best served stored in dresser drawers if at all possible.

You can also consider storing your blankets and pillows inside plastic bins. Be sure to launder any fabrics before packing away.

Toasters, blenders, food processors, coffee pots and other small kitchen appliances may need packed away from time to time.

If you’re looking for long term storage for small appliances, pack them away in their original boxes if you have them. If not, smaller cardboard boxes will work.
