What does note taking involve?
What must I do for all
assignments?
Where can I find assignments?
Where and when can I get extra help?
How is late work addressed?
Cornell notes will be used. The left column is for study questions
while the right column is for notes. The bottom is for a summary. (This syllabus is in Cornell note form.) Notes will be kept in a
binder exclusively used for this purpose. NOTE: If you miss
school, you are still responsible for completing the notes.
Work through the problems thoughtfully, showing all work and
explaining your reasoning when asked to do so. Homework will be graded and corrected by you to facilitate your learning.
Assignments will be posted on the whiteboard in the classroom
and on the EDHS website. Worksheets can be found in the cubby
in front of the classroom and usually online. Homework help is usually available in my room Tuesday – Friday
mornings at 7:30 am. If you need help, please email Mrs. Gartner
the night before by 9:00 pm. Mrs. Gartner will reply only if she
cannot be there in the morning.
Afterschool tutoring available by NHS starting in October.
Other tutoring opportunities will be announced as they are
arranged.
If late due to EXCUSED absences, the school policy will be followed.
If late for REASONS OTHER than excused absences, you may use
a “consequence free” pass. You will receive 10 “consequence free”
passes for the year and may use them at any time for late
homework. You will receive full credit for your work as long as the
work is turned in the Monday following the assigned due date.

What do quizzes
tell me?
What is the testing policy?
What should I do in order to do
well on my tests?
What is the number one
expectation for classroom behavior?
What is the cell phone policy for this class?
Quizzes will be taken either in a group setting or individually.
Taken either way, they will help you identify concepts that you will
need to study in order to be prepared for the test.
Tests will usually be given at the end of each unit unless the unit
is long. In that case, a mid-chapter test will be given.
There will be a graphing calculator and a non-calculator section
to each test. Tests are usually taken individually.
Cell phones will be collected on test and quiz days.
During class, you should listen, ask questions, take notes, and
participate in class and group discussions/activities. Grade and
make corrections to you homework/classwork. Study your notes.
Complete and correct each test’s study guide and then practice the ones you missed. Seek help from fellow students and/or the teacher.
Follow the GOLDEN RULE: TREAT OTHERS AS YOU WOULD WANT TO BE TREATED.
Side note: This room is rated G. Please refrain from using
language that would not be used in a Disney movie like Lion King.
People in a closed environment cannot help what they hear, but people can help what they say. Please respect others.
Cell phones must be put away – out of sight – in backpacks and not in pockets BEFORE the tardy bell rings. There are times,
however, when you may be requested to use them.

This classroom is
designated as FRAGRANCE
FREE or as being a CLEAN
ENVIRONMENT. What is this?
What am I supposed to do if I have need of lotion or hand
sanitizer?
Other questions?
SUMMARY
There is a group of people, approximately 15% of the population,
that has reactions to artificial fragrances (scents created using chemicals). These reactions may be mild, a headache perhaps, or
more severe like a migraine headache or asthma. You may know
someone like this: a classmate, a friend, a family member, or a
teacher. Your teacher, Mrs. Gartner is one of the 15%. So you are
being asked to be respectful and considerate of your teacher by
refraining from wearing to class perfumes, colognes, fragrant lotions,
scented hand sanitizers, etc.
Fragrance free hand sanitizer and lotion will be available in class.
And, of course, you can always wash your hands in the restroom.
