The Anderton Boat Lift at Northwich in the heart of Cheshire is one of the marvels of the canals.
Board our special trip boat after taking a look around the visitor centre to learn the story of the lift, of course our live commentary will take you into the heart of the lift and illuminate the engineering. Stay on board the boat for a unique look at the industrial heritage of Northwich, a town which has made its living on salt for 2,000 years.
Access to our visitor centre, gift shop and coffee shop are free so immerse yourself in our waterway wonder become absorbed in our interactive exhibition, focusing on the lives of those who designed, built and spent their working lives around this mighty structure.
Browse our gift shop and admire the view from our welcoming coffee shop while trying our freshly ground coffee, handmade cakes and generous sandwiches. Or watch the mighty machinery in action from the panoramic viewing platform.
Take a leisurely cruise aboard the Edwin Clark. Step aboard the elegant Edwin Clark trip boat and take a 30 minute voyage through the heart of the Anderton Boat Lift. The 56 seat accessible trip boat will transport you from the Weaver Navigation to the Trent & Mersey Canal over 50 feet above. Sit back and take in the view as you journey through the towering structure.
Extend your trip with a river cruise, hugging the banks of the Weaver Navigation to the Town Swing Bridge in Northwich an historic market town with deep roots in the salt trade.
The massive iron framework, a masterpiece of high Victorian engineering, lifts canal boats 50ft between the Weaver Navigation and the Trent & Mersey Canal and the trip boat gives visitors the chance to see this from the inside!
