Localization Scotland is part of the United

Kingdom. It consists of over 790 islands. The capital is Edinburgh The Kingdom was an independent

state until 1 May 1707. From a geological perspective the

country has three main sub-divisions: Highlands, Lowlands and Shetlands.

History What was the roman name for Scotland? The Romans called it Caledonia. It’s the Roman name of a tribe in the

northern part of Scotland.

Scottish figures:

Sir William Wallace: Born in 1270 Renfrew, Scotland, William Wallace became the leader of the Scottish rebels during the first years of the long, and ultimately successful, to free Scotland from English. The English killed him.

Mary Stuart : Mary was Queen of Scotland about 460 years ago. She was one of the most tragic queens in British history. She was born in Linlithgow Palace in the year 1542. Her father died six days after her birth and with his death Mary became the infant queen. She and her mother moved to Stirling Castle where she was crowned Queen.

Famous people of Scotland

Arthur conan doyle Doctor, novelist and writer of detective stories, is the creator

of Sherlock Holmes. He was born in 1859 in Edinburgh and studied in the universities of Stonyhurst and of Edinburgh. By his works the title of sir was granted to him. He died in 1930.

Sean Connery He was born in Edinburgh in 1939. He is an actor and producer

of Scotch cinema who won a Prize Oscar. Great part of his reputation is due to the personage James Bond.

Loch Ness Lake

Loch Ness is located in the North of Scotland.

The lake is over 750 feet deep and 23 miles long.

Many years it has been supposed that there is a large dinosaur-like "monster" resident in Loch Ness.

Clans What is the meaning of the gaelic word “Clan”?

The word clan is derived from 'clann' meaning 'family' in the Irish and Scottish Gaelic languages

  Tartan: Tartan is a type of Scottish fabric.The particular design of each type of

graph (for each clan), is called tartan.

Kilts: The kilt is the garment most typical of Scotland. It consists of a skirt

but has the peculiarity that the men wear. The kilt color difference from the different clans of the Highlands region.

Edinburgh

Edinburgh is the capital city of Scotland, the second largest city in Scotland, and the eighth most populous in the United Kingdom. The City of Edinburgh Council governs one of Scotland's 32 local government council areas. The council area includes urban Edinburgh and a 78 km2 rural area. Located in the south-east of Scotland, Edinburgh lies on the east coast of the Central Belt, along the Firth of Forth, near the North Sea.
