Vocabulary

Scientific method – A systematic approach to problem solving.

Hypothesis – a proposed solution to a scientific problem.

Variable – the factor being tested in an experimental setup.

Vocabulary

Data – recorded observations and measurements.

Manipulated Variable – The factor you change or control (already know these values before you start)

Responding Variable – What you measure during the experiment.

Science – Not Just for Scientists The goal of science is to understand the

world around us.

Three Main Branches of Science

Life science: study of living things. Earth science: study of the features of the Earth. Physical science: study of matter and energy.

Chemistry – study of substances and how they change and combine.

Physics – study of energy
