• Crust – the surface of the earth. This includes the ocean floor. It is between 60 and 100 miles thick.

• Mantle – The layer below the earth’s crust. Its temperature varies from 1,800 to 6,200 degrees Fahrenheit. It is more than 1,800 miles thick, and is comprised of Iron, Aluminum, Selenium, and other elements.

• Outer Core – 6,000 and 8,000 degrees Fahrenheit. Mostly liquid Iron and Sulfur.

• Inner Core – More than 8,000 degrees, made of mostly solid Iron.
