EXPLANATORY
PREFACE
This
Register
contains
the names
of
all
the
Elementary
Schools of
the
Provincial
System
and
of
the teachers
employed
therein
as
of
November,
1956.
It
also
contains certain
information
regarding
each
school,
including
the
name
and
address
of
each
secretary,
and
also
the
name, address,
salary
and
grade
of
certificate
of each teacher.
For
convenience,
this
information has been
divided
into
four
parts,
as
follows:
Part
I
The
Public
Schools
of
the
Cities and
Metropolitan
Toronto.
Part
II
The Public
Schools
of
the
County
Inspectorates.
Part III
The Public
Schools of
the
District
Inspectorates.
Part
IV
The
Roman
Catholic
Separate
Schools.
The
Inspectorates
are
arranged
in
alphabetical
order.
An
index
of
the
Inspectorates
of
Cities,
Counties and
Districts has
been
provided
at the back of
the
book.
A
summary
of
the
number
of
the
several
grades
of
certificates
has
been
placed
at
the head
of each
City,
and also
at
the head
of
each Public and
Separate
School
Inspectorate,
and a
general summary
for
the Province at the
back
of
the
book.
Where
the
area of an
Inspectorate
includes a
city
and
a
county
in whole
or in
part,
the
summary
of
the certificates
of
the teachers
of
each
part
is
separate.
The number
of teachers and
schools
in
each
Inspectorate
are also
indicated in
each
heading.
The
rural schools
are listed first
in
each
Inspectorate
in Parts
II,
III,
and
IV,
followed
by
the
schools of
the
urban
municipalities.
It
should be noted that
the statistics
contained
herein
have
been
compiled,
not
from
the
Departmental
Registers,
but
from
Special
Reports
by
the Inspectors
or
Principals
concerned.
Frequent
changes
in
the
schools render absolute
accuracy
in
the
list
of
teachers
impossible.
The
Local
Assessment
is
given
for the
Districts and
for
all urban
munici-
palities
Equalized
Assessment
in all
other
cases.
A
list
of
urban
municipalities
within
the
Province
of
Ontario and the
assessed
population
of
each is
also included.
