GCE ‘O’ Levels

• A one-year programme that offers a practice-oriented curriculum taught by polytechnic lecturers, to better prepare polytechnic-bound N(A) students for entry into the relevant Polytechnic Diploma courses.

• An alternative to the Sec 5 year.

• PFP students are given provisional places in diploma programmes, subject to them passing all modules in the one-year PFP.

• The requirement to pass all modules ensures that students continue to work hard during their PFP year and are well prepared for polytechnic studies. Students who apply should have no difficulties in meeting the requirement.

To be eligible to apply for the PFP, N(A) students must obtain: • ELMAB3 (English, Math, Best 3 Subjects) raw aggregate score of 11 points or better (excluding CCA bonus points) at the GCE ‘N’-Level examination and the following subject specific requirements

• These requirements are in place to ensure that students have the necessary foundations to attend the PFP.

• Bonus points will be awarded for good CCA grades. These bonus points will be used in computing the ELMAB3 net aggregate score for course posting within the PFP.

For a Secondary 4N(A) student who wants a guaranteed place in the Polytechnic, then the ITE Direct Entry Scheme to Polytechnic Programme (DPP) is what he/she should consider. Students must obtain an ELMAB3 (English, Math, Best 3 Subjects) raw aggregate score of 19 points or better (excluding CCA bonus points) at the GCE ‘N’-Level examination to be eligible to apply to DPP.

They must also obtain the following:

Once you have completed the Higher Nitec course, you would be assured of a place in a Polytechnic Diploma course if you meet the Qualifying Grade Point Average (GPA) for DPP students.

Admission exercise to allow JCs/Institutions to select some Secondary 4/5 students for admission to JC1 based on their achievements and talents before the GCE ‘O’ Level examination results are released. The DSA-JC is to provide students an opportunity to demonstrate a more diverse range of achievements and talents in seeking admission to a JC/Institution.

The DPA Exercise is an admission exercise that allows students, who have an interest and aptitude for polytechnic education, to confirm a place in a polytechnic course prior to their GCE O-Level examinations. DPA allows the polytechnics greater flexibility to select students on criteria other than examination results, thus allowing a wider range of talents to be recognised.
