School for AUTISMAUTISM-AUTISM is a complex neuron development disorder that affects a child by the age of three.They can hear , see and feel yet have difficulty in understanding and expressing what their senses tell them.AUTISM in India - HISTORYAutism has been in Indian scientific literature as early as 1944.But only late 1980’s,autism was distinguished from mental retardation.1991- action for autism(AFA) was founded.Awareness of autism in India has experienced tremendous growth in less than a decade.India is home to about 10 million people with autism.One in every 88 children is born with ASD.NEED – The primary thing required for autistic child is a proper diagnosis , which is almost non existent in India.AIM- To create an infrastructure that ensures a smooth graduation from school to the outside world , for the kids affected by autism syndrome deficiency(ASD).OBJECTIVES-An institutional project aiming to1. Prepare for all those who are already with autism To facilitate a barrier free environment- To act as a platform that will train and enable persons with autism to live as fully participating members of the community.To set up a center for vocational skill that promotes their talentA space that supports IEPs(individualized education programs - spaces required for the concerned activities- Environment that encourages interactionProject Justification-GLOBALLYThe global prevalence of autism has increased twentyfold to thirtyfold in the past few decades.In the 1970s and 1980s, about 1 out of every 2,000 children had autism. About 1 percent of the world population has autism spectrum disorder.INDIAAccording to statistics of centers for disease control and prevention(CDC),The prevalence rate of autism in India is 1 in 88 i.e., currently 10 million people are suffering in India.The results are not sure as there are many cases in India are still not bought to notificationIt is proven that through the built environment and comprehensive services , the quality of life of people affected by ASD can be improved.Right to Education-Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan - Right to Education Act and the National Trust Act - children suffering from autism too have equal and compulsory right to education.BUT,These children usually face discrimination and disparity by school authorities and even students.Experts believe that despite India having many special schools for disables, the facilities required by autistic children are still insufficient. THIS PROJECT AIMS AT ENCOURAGING CHILDREN AFFECTED BY ASD THROUGH A BUILT SPACE AND AT THE SAME TIME CREATE AN AWARENESS IN THE SOCIETY ON THE IMPORTANCE OF THE AUTISM.
