If we could offer you one tip for the future, sunscreen would be it. You can reduce the risk of
getting melanoma and premature aging by protecting yourself when you are in the sun. This
means more than just wearing sunscreen on hot summer days, in fact 80% of the sun’s rays can
still reach you through light clouds, mist, and fog.
Sunblock will protect your skin but remember that it should be “broad-spectrum coverage” which
will protect you from both UV-A and UV-B radiation. Sunblock with an SPF of 12 to 29 provide
only moderate protection. Those with an SPF of 30 or higher is recommended for full protection.
Typical signs of sun damage include freckles, sunspots and wrinkles! It is very important to
reapply sunblock every 2 hours if you are in the sun (which includes driving) for long periods of
time.
How to Protect Yourself
Don’t forget your sensitive lips! Protect with a lip balm that has an SPF of 15 or
higher
Reapply (even waterproof sunblock) every 2 hours
Wear sunglasses with UV-protective lenses. The label should say the lenses block
at least 99% of UV-A and UV-B radiation
Apply sunblock about 30 minutes before you go into the sun
Limit the amount of time you spend in the sun between the hours of 10am and 4pm
when the sun’s rays are the strongest. Check the local UV index before you head out.
Check your medications! Some medications can make you more sun-sensitive,
including oral contraceptives, antibiotics, skin treatments (Retin-A
etc) and medications for blood pressure, and arthritis.

Would you like fuller,
more youthful lips? Restylane gel filler can add volume and fullness to the lips to create a more youthful appearance. Restylane is made of hyaluronic acid, a substance that is naturally present in your skin but decreases as we get older. The hyaluronic acid in Restylane is formulated to act like your own and replaces lost volume creating a more youthful appearance. The treatment takes only a few minutes and side effects are minimal but can include pain, swelling and bruising. Treatment can last six months or longer.

Testimonials My cosmetic surgery experience was terrific thanks to
Dr. Vogel and his staff. Dr. Vogel is an excellent
surgeon and he has an uncomparable bedside manner.
He definitely put me at ease from the very first
meeting. His staff is outstanding also. Everyone that I
encountered was genuinely nice and extremely
helpful. Danielle, the Patient Coordinator, goes above
and beyond in orchestrating the surgical journey. She
was always prompt in replying to any email I had sent
(and there were many) and was very comforting
during each step of the way. If I ever decide to have
another cosmetic procedure done, I will definitely go
back to Dr. Vogel since my first experience was so
spectacular.

___________
I would, and have recommended Dr Vogel. I have never
felt so comfortable at a doctor's office. In fact, I felt like
I was at a spa! Dr Vogel took his time with me, and his
staff was wonderful. The whole experience was easy,
including my recovery. I had very little pain, and I was
back to exercising in no time. My only regret is that I
didn't have breast augmentation sooner!
~ Tammy L.
___________
I cannot say enough to commend Dr. Vogel's practice.
Everyone treated me with respect, answered any
questions I had, and made me feel totally comfortable
with every step of my cosmetic surgery experience.
Not only is Dr. Vogel a highly skilled surgeon, his
bedside manner is impeccable. Every staff member
that I encountered was wonderful. The nurse that
placed my I.V. and took care of me before surgery was
very comforting. The nurse anesthetist even called me
the night before surgery to alleviate any worries I may
have had. I cannot say enough about Danielle, the
patient coordinator. She always answered any ques-
tions I had (no matter how trivial) quickly and we
corresponded through numerous emails before my
surgery date. If I were to have cosmetic surgery again I
would most definitely go to Dr. Vogel.
___________
I have been seeing Betsy Willner, the nurse injector at
Dr. Vogel’s office for six years now. She does a great
job on my Botox and filler treatments. I look younger
now than I did then! Before meeting Betsy I had been
going to another office and was not treated nearly as
well as I do at Dr. Vogel’s office and did not get the
results I get from Betsy. I would not think of going
anywhere else.

fresh face...
“What’s in a name?” should really be the title of this article!
The reason is that many names have been applied to
different types of facelifts and none of the labels are really
fully descriptive. In fact some names for facelifts can be
confusing at best and often designed for publicity purposes.
Essentially all facelifts strive to accomplish the same goal,
which is to reverse the aging process. Given enough time,
sun damage and heredity, the skin and underlying tissues of
the face sag with gravity and the facelift procedure uplifts
those tissues. Certainly different techniques are available to
uplift the facial skin and tissues and this is where the
different names for the procedure come into play. A full
facelift usually refers to up lifting and tightening the loose
skin and muscles of the neck, cheeks, jowls and corners of
the mouth. Uplifting only the cheeks, jowls and corners of
the mouth is not considered a full facelift but rather, a
“mini” lift. In our office we refer to this procedure as an S
-lift! The S refers to the shorter scar needed to accomplish
the mini lift as compared to the longer scar used in the full
facelift.
Both the full and S-lift are excellent procedures. The choice
of which procedure is best suited for a given patient is an
individual assessment based on goals as well as the degree of
drooping facial and neck skin. Two examples are shown that
illustrate the application of these different facial procedures.
Q. If I have a S-lift, does that mean I can’t have a
full facelift in the future?
A. No. Having a S-lift today will not rule out the
option of having a full facelift in the future.
Q. Will a S-lift remove the nasolabial folds?
A. No. A S-lift usually softens this fold, which
runs from the nose to the corners of the mouth,
but it will not remove it.
Q. Will a S-lift eliminate a “turkey neck”?
A. No. Although a S-lift can smooth out minor
sagging of the neck skin, it cannot be expected
to eliminate a sagging neck. This type of
correction would require a full facelift and
perhaps neck muscle tightening.
Q. How long does a S-lift or full facelift last?
A. The answer is forever in that you will always
look better having had it done than not;
however it is not uncommon for people to have
a touch up or another facelift approximately
10 years later.
Q. Is recovery shorter with a S-lift verses a full
facelift?
A. In general patients are able to return to work
within 7 days following the S-lift and 2 weeks
following the full facelift. Some minor bruising
and moderate swelling will still be present at
the time however. On the other hand, a major
social or business event should be scheduled 6
weeks or more from the date of the procedure.
During your private consultation Dr. Vogel will
evaluate you and recommend the procedure that
will best achieve the results you want.

What should be expected from Endermologie?
We recommend an average of 15 sessions initially. A session lasts approximately 30-45 minutes. For the best results, two sessions a week are recommended. Following your 15 sessions a monthly session is then recommended to maintain your results. You must drink plenty of water throughout your course of treatment to help flush away toxins.
Would you like smoother, more toned skin? Endermologie is a FDA approved medical mas-sage for the reduction of cellulite (that dimpled skin!). Using a special machine, the skin is massaged, thereby increasing the supply of blood and lymph fluid to the treated area, along with the production of collagen, making the skin smoother. The endermologie machine has a vacuum that creates a suction to immobilize and lift soft tissues with the rollers, massaging the tissues at the same time. The vacuum helps to pull the septas (fibrous bands of tissue that surround fat cells in the skin to keep them in place) back up, smoothing and evening the surface of the skin.

Hairlines Current State of the Art in Hair Transplants
Solutions ~ May 2012
Chances are that when you think of hair transplantation an image of hair plugs or corn rows come to mind. These are results of the past. In fact, chances are also good that you have seen individuals with a modern hair transplant but did not realize a surgical procedure had been performed! The reason hair transplants are so natural these days is a result of new micro vascular surgery techniques being applied to the field of hair restoration surgery. Older procedures involved transplanting plugs of 10-12 hairs each. Today the surgical microscope is used to isolate the hair follicles as they naturally occur in 1, 2, or 3 hair groupings called follicular units. These hair follicles are then meticulously transplanted into the scalp using micro-surgical forceps (surgical tweezers) using magnification and exquisite precision. The result is a natural look and growing hair in a location that was previously bald.

Rogaine
This is medication that was initially used for high blood pressure. It was converted into a
topical agent when it was shown to have properties of hair growth. This is the only FDA
approved topical medication for hair loss. The benefits are variable and only about 30%
of people really see a significant improvement in their hair growth when Rogaine is
applied to the scalp. The lotion can be very drying and can cause some scalp flaking. The
Rogaine foam is typically better tolerated. This product should be applied twice daily
and when discontinued the benefits accrued up to that point are typically lost within a
few months. For those individuals who use Rogaine and obtain an improved hair appearance and who also do not mind
the twice daily application, this topical medication does have merit!
