Eduard Wallnoefer Platz

This was project was designed by Architects LAAC Architekten and Stiefel Kramer Architecture. This square is located in Innsbruck, Austria and was built in 2010. This square had to be designed around an existing subterranean parking garage, and a surface holding 4 national monuments. The topography of the area created a challenge for the designers to overcome. There design solution was to create a new topography

that they controlled.

We are also designing around historic landmarks and on a hill with historically changing topography. I would like to develop an understanding for historical sensitivity and topographical control that is illustrated

by this design.

Covington Farmers Market

The Covington Farmers Market was designed and built by design/buildLAB, a third year architecture studio at the Virginia Tech, School of Architecture in 2011. Modulation and digital fabrication allowed for the build of this project to work relatively easy. Simple materials and lighting help execute this space for its function. This serves as a venue for local vendors to promote the sale of local foods and products. The market is also a gathering place where community members can gather and interact in a safe,

family friendly environment

I enjoyed the simplicity of line and material used in this design build project. Similarly in my design I would like to able to use a modular vendor stall that could be moved in for market and taken out for larger events. After all these pavilions need to serve as something different when they are not being used for the market.

High Line NYC

The High Line was Built in 1929 to move the New York Central Railroad off the street level of NYC. In 1999 a group formed named Friends of the High Line who wished to save this historic monument and create a pedestrian walk way down the length of it. The last completed part of the high line opened in 2011. Of the thirteen mile track built in 1929 1.45 miles is currently proposed to be redeveloped into a green space walk way.

One mile of this walk is already complete.

I find the depth and range of public dimension found in this project important to the development of many urban designed public spaces. In Savannah it is easy to see the stressed importance of the street grid with its rotation of green space, wards, and one ways. This is one very effective way to celebrate separation of

pedestrian space and automobile traffic.
