Located in Colombia San Agustin is in the department of Huila.

1° 54′ 0″ N, 76° 17′ 0″ W

The village was originally founded in 1752 by Alejo Astudillo, but attacks by indigenous people destroyed it

The present village was founded in 1790 by Lucas de Herazo y Mendigaña

In 1995 it was declared a UNESCO world heritage, because of the recent discovery of a large, sculptures stones

Rolling hills boarding the Magdalena River.

Very little is know about this civilization. San Agustin is actually a collections of ceremonial and burial sites.

The monuments are scatted over an area of 250 square miles.

These people settled near San Agustin as early as 3300 BC.

They made about 500 statues between the 6th and 14th centuries.

The San Agustin people treated woman as equals and superiors.

A good grasp of advanced mathematics, they tried to do surgeries and they believed that there is life after death.

They did do sacrifices, burned alive and sometimes buried alive.

The climate is hot with high humidity.
