Characteristics

Their color is tan and green.

Their feet are webbed.

The jaw is heavy set with between 64-68 teeth.

Adult males can reach 6-7 feet.

Their weight can be up to 2,200 lbs.

They spend most of their time basking on land.

Habitat and Range

The habitat is mostly coastal waters or rivers. The range is mostly in Australia and New Guinea.

Diet Their diet is anything they can get

their jaws onto such as water buffalo, wild boar, monkeys, and even sharks.

Saltwater crocodiles communicate by barks and are thought to have four different calls:

1. High-pitched distress call performed by young crocodiles in a series of short barks

2. Threat calls consist of a hissing sound made at intruders.

3. The hatching call is performed by newborns as a high-pitched short bark

4. The courtship bellow is heard as a long, low growl.

Interesting facts

They are the largest living reptiles. The females lay 40 – 60 eggs. Saltwater crocodiles are very intelligent animals. Several people have died because they have been

attacked.

Endangered or Thriving

The saltwater crocodile is not officially threatened. They are now protected from the danger of humans hunting them for leather or meat.
