Go shopping for your
wedding venue knowing
that you do not have to
make your final decision.
In this phase, you should
try to narrow your
options down to less
than 12 venues.
STEP 1 : PICK A HANDFUL OF YOUR FAVORITES
STEP 2: HOW MANY GUESTS ARE YOU
INVITING?
Decide how many guests you are planning to invite to your wedding. Once you have
made your decision, ask each venue how many guests they can accommodate. You do
not want to have a venue with a 500 guest capacity when you only have 100
guests attending. At most Salt Lake City wedding reception venues I have seen, 100
to 300 guests is pretty standard. You don’t want to invite 300 guests and learn that
your venue has a 200 guest capacity. This step usually cuts your options in half.
STEP 3: PRICE
You need to sit down with your fiancée before you
have made any plans and set a budget. Decide how
much you can spend and don’t go over the
budget. After you have determined your budget,
know that your reception should cost about half
of your budget. This amount should include
decorations and food. Discuss price with the
remaining venues. This step will usually cut your
options in half again. If you started with 12 venues,
you will probably have 3 or 4 to choose from at
this point.
STEP 4: LOCATION
Make sure your venue is in a
central place. By doing this, you will
have a larger amount of guests
attending your wedding reception.
Remember that your guests have jobs
and kids. A long drive can make a
difference in their availability. This
step should bring you to about 2
or 3 choices.
STEP 5: THIS ONE IS FUN
The final suggestion I have is where you will have your fun. If you
have followed these steps, you should have 2 or 3 venues to choose
from. Now it is time to call your best friends and take them to look at
the venues. Your friends will help you decide which venue is best for
you.
