Safety When Sleeping Aboard
Presented by:www.SeeTheYachts.com, the #1 Listing & Marketing Portal for Yachts & Boats for Sale.
Boat Safety Tips—When aboard
• US Coast Guard says we lose hundreds of lives every year to preventable recreational boating accidents
• This presentation provides tips that’ll help you stay safe, as you enjoy a night aboard
Alerting Devices
• Carbon Monoxide Detector– The exhaust leaks from your boats contain carbon monoxide – You cannot detect it since it’s odorless– Carbon monoxide detector will alert you through an alarm when
the toxic gas level rises
Radar Devices
• Radar Device – To detect incoming traffic and alert you– Set a larger perimeter boundary – This gives you time to respond if any boat or yacht crosses the
safety perimeter you’ve set for your boat/yacht
Global Positioning System (GPS)
• GPS– Will alert you if your boat moves beyond a set perimeter– This will keep your boat from drifting off as you drift off to sleep.
Check Functioning
• Ensure safety devices function properly• Test them devices before you hit the water• Check their batteries
– Make sure they are charged – Carry a couple of spare batteries
Other Safety Equipment
• Life jackets• Whistles• Emergency horn• Water tight flashlights
False Alarms
• The safety devices may trigger false alarms– Quite common with GPS owing to tidal movement
• Respond cautiously to every alarm …you never know which one signals a disaster and which one’s false
