SafeSet Application: Tunnel Boring Machine
Avoiding excessive torque levels prevents the driveline from being damaged. Protecting the drive units in the ma-chine from torque peaks also minimizes extensive and expensive downtime in the event of a torque overload.
Worldwide leader in tunneling technology, Herrenknecht wanted to limit torque peaks and provide protection for the driveline components when the cutterhead became blocked. The peaks can be hard to predict due to varying rock or soil layers. The cutterhead can be up to 19 m Ø.
SafeSet torque limiting couplings from Voith safeguard against these peaks that can arise in all operating conditions, regard-less of the particular rotation speed.
