Miguel apellaniz

We usually celebrate the

Holy Week in March or

April, 40 days after

Carnival and

commemorate the death

and resurrection of Jesus.

We take out religious floats with statues

of saints and go through the streets, and

the members of the different lay

brotherhoods play drums and some play

the bugle, too.

In Andalucia, in the South of Spain, the

people celebrate the Holy Week more

fervently and the public even cries if their

saints can´t parade because it’s raining.

Miguel is member of the brotherhood of

Mary Magdalene. Its float has a statue of

the sixteen century. It is the most

expensive and old statue of Logroño.

There are other brotherhoods, like the brotherhood of the Nazarene and their float has a statue of Christ and he carries a big, wooden crucifix.

The most showy is the float of the Lady of

Sorrow, a virgin with a beautiful dress. Her

heart has seven knives.

Miguel’s brotherhood practices for the

processions in Oyon, a small village near

Logroño, our town, but the people can’t

see them rehearse.

His favourite procession is on Maundy Thursday because his brotherhood organizes it. Its name is the Silence and Light Procession and it is at night.

We also play a Via Crucis with different

moments of Jesus Passion.

The longest procession is on Good Friday

and it is four hours long.

The first procession is on Palm Sunday

and the last is on Easter Sunday, the day

when Jesus resurrected.
