Aligning Forces for Quality Developer Challenge

Aligning Forces Markets

“To develop an application that helps patients access better health care using publicly

available inpatient and outpatient measures of health care quality from the AF4Q program”

The Challenge

• Create a decision making support application

• That allows users to access inpatient and outpatient health resources

• Think about creating something like “Turbo Tax” for health data

• Data from the Challenge will come from AF4Q program sites

Challenge Details

Judging Criteria

1)  Creativity and innovation

2)  Design, usability and intuitiveness of application

3)  Potential impact to improve the quality of care for application users

4)  Effective integration of data from AF4Q sources into the application

5)  Ability to demonstrate real world impact (Phase II)

Prizes

Phase I 5 Semi-finalist Teams will receive travel to an AF4Q meeting

to present their applications

Phase II First Place: $100,000

Plus inclusion of the application on the 16 AF4Q sites, and lunch with Risa Lavizzo-Mourey, CEO of the RWJF

Second Place: $25,000

Third Place: $5,000

Timeline

Phase I Submission Period Ends December 31, 2011

Phase II Development Begins Early January 2012

Phase II Development Period Ends Late April 2012

Winner Announced June 2012, HDI Successor Day

How To Enter

1)  Teams must register for the challenge to gain access to the available datasets

2)  A registration button and related link for the challenge can be found at the top of the right hand column of the challenge page

3)  No additional forms or steps required after submission of the registration form

4)  Instructions on how to submit an entry will be sent prior to the close of the submission deadline

Data Terms

“Use of provided data for reasons other than those delineated in the purposes of the Challenge is strictly prohibited. Failure to

comply with proscribed data terms is a violation of the terms and conditions put forth in this agreement. Unacceptable use of data

includes, but is not limited to, its access for non-challenge related purposes, extraction for other databases, replication or dissemination. The sponsor and administrator make no

representations or warranties with respect to the data provided, and any and all implied warranties with respect thereto are

expressly disclaimed.”

Data Use

1)  Use any or all of the available data sources

2)  Participants should attempt to incorporate as many data points from the AF data set as possible

3)  Mashing up with publicly available non-proprietary data sources is allowed
