EDA – General Information
The legal basis
The Treaty of Lisbon (01/12/2009) elevated EDA to Treaty level as a substantial cornerstone of the Common Security and Defense Policy. The Council Joint Action 2004/551/CFSP (12 July 2004) on the establishment of the EDA still applies.
The Head of the Agency
Catherine Ashton, the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, is the Head of the European Defence Agency from the 1 December 2009.
The Chief Executive
Claude-France Arnouldtook her appointment on 17 January 2011.
