PSA PROGRAM FOR ATTA SUMMIT ARGENTINA 2017
Cafayate is the main town and most important site in the Calchaquí Valleys. To get here from Salta, we travel along National Road Nº 68, passing through the otherworldly colorful rockscapes of the Quebrada de Cafayate.
Cafayate has a tranquil small-town feel despite being a popular tourist destination. Walking in the flowery main square, visiting the picturesque stone mill, the wine museums, the Cathedral with its unique architecture, and engaging with the local people are all pleasant ways to pass the time here.
Located at 1,660m (5,522’) above sea level, Cafayate’s climate, an ideal combination of temperature and humidity, makes it Argentina’s second center for wine production. Torrontés, a white grape producing fresh, aromatic wines, is the variety for which Cafayate is most famous.
We spend the day walking among and photographing the interesting rock formations dating back 65 million years, visiting the town, and tasting its famous wine.

PSA PROGRAM FOR ATTA SUMMIT ARGENTINA 2017
We depart Salta city at 8:00am heading south along National Route Nº68, passing towns in the Lerma Valley such as Cerrillos, La Merced, El Carril and Coronel Moldes, until we get to Alemanía. Here the valley ends and the Cafayate ravine begins. For about 67 km we come across the most varied landscapes in color and shape, many of which have been named such as Los Castillos (the castles), Las Ventanas (the windows), La Garganta del Diablo (The Devil’s Throat) and El Anfiteatro (The Amphitheater). Arriving in Cafayate, we tour the town and visit wineries.
On the way back to Salta, we hike for approximately 1 hour in the La Yesera Gorge to explore the rock formations which date back 65 million years, the Cretaceous era when this area was covered with a giant lake.
Return to Salta at approximately 7:00pm.

We have been working in tourism for years, so we decided to start our trip, our project, our own agency, getting there took a lot of effort and time.
So many years traveling, knowing, acquiring experience, learning from the people who visit us, helped us to understand that beyond the knowledge, the tourist seeks for pleasant moment, and take back to home the best memories.
We have in our hands the responsibility to make the best of their trips, they will feel that they have friends here, and we, we will always be thankful of heart for choosing De Altura to do it.
We are all owners of this beautiful land and that is why we want to share and care for it. Respecting the people, culture, nature, and making this activity: sustainable, for future travelers.
