Dear sisters and brothers in Christ,
One of the questions I often get asked is about the setting of the date of Easter. Christmas is
always December 25, regardless of the day of the week, but Easter moves a great deal from year
to year.
I’ll spare you the vagaries of church history and the differences between the Gregorian and Julian
and solar and lunar calendars, but Easter is always the first Sunday after the first full moon after
the Spring equinox (March 21). That’s because according to Scripture, Jesus’ death and
resurrection happened around the Jewish festival of Passover, which was always celebrated on
the first full moon following the Spring equinox. Consequently, Easter can be as early as March
22 or as late as April 25!
Holy Week begins this year on March 25 with Palm Sunday, the day we mark and remember
Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem. Our morning worship services that day will feature a palm
processional parade.
On Maundy Thursday, March 29, we’ll gather for worship at 6:30 p.m. in the chapel. Our
Maundy Thursday worship will feature foot washing and the Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper
(Communion).
On Good Friday, March 30, we’ll gather again for worship at 6:30 p.m. in the chapel. Our
service will feature and a special musical piece entitled, “The Solemn Reproaches of the Cross.”
On Easter Sunday, April 1, we’ll enjoy one combined worship service at 10 a.m. in the
Sanctuary, with a butterfly release on the south lawn before the service. If you like, bring some
fresh cut flowers to put in our flower cross.
The story of Jesus’ betrayal, execution, and resurrection is often described as “The Greatest Story
Ever Told.” But it’s more than just a great story. It’s the foundation of our faith, and Easter
changes everything. I hope you’ll make plans to join us this year as we tell the story once again,
and I hope you’ll invite a friend or neighbor to join you, too.
Peace be with you,
Ryan

Thanks to all who submitted BoxTops for Education vouchers for the
Como Elementary Library. In December, RPC donated 175 BoxTops,
valued at $17.50.
To date, RPC has donated 7766 BoxTops (for a total value of
$776.60) to Como Elementary. The funds are used to purchase books
and other educational materials.
A container is located in the kitchen near the main office for anyone who would like con-
tribute. If you are unable to bring them to the church, you may send them in the mail to
RPC (Attention: Karen Landon).
BoxTops are found on dozens of General Mills products. General Mills donates 10 cents
to the school for each BoxTops submitted. Every little bit helps!
