Argumentation, Inversion and Anachronism

Argumentation

• Is a claim being made on something you are arguing over.

• Its also the actual evidence used in the argument.

• A statement that connects the initial claim to the argument and guarantees that we understand how the argument functions.

• "The three goals of critical argumentation are to identify, analyze, and evaluate arguments.

Examples of Argumentation

This shows argumentation because they are arguing that second hand smoke is just as Deadly as smoking a cigarette.

Another example of argumentation

“It’s your turn to make dinner today. I made dinner yesterday.” Counter argument: “You’re making dinner all of this week. I have an exam next week. That’s what we agreed.”

Inversion

• Is when the normal order of words is reversed in order to achieve a particular effect of emphasis.

• Instead of saying I will die tomorrow, you would change it into an inversion by saying Tomorrow, I will die.

Inversion

Placing an adjective after the noun it qualifies e.g. the soldier strongPlacing a verb before its subject e.g. shouts the policemanPlacing a noun before its preposition e.g. worlds between

Examples of Inversion

• What a beautiful picture it is!• Where in the world were you!• How wonderful the weather is today!

Anachronism

• Anything that is out of time and out of place.

• Are considered errors that occur due to lack of research.

• But sometimes its used for a special artistic effect in order to attract the attention of the readers by an appropriate use of anachronism.

Example

In William Shakespeare’s play Julius Ceaser Brutus says “Peace! Count the clock.”Cassius says “The clock has stricken three.”This is an anachronism because there were no clocks in that time in Rome.

Another example of anachronism

The film ‘Grounding’, which is about the collapse of an aircraft, is set in September of the year 2001. Yet, it shows the use of Windows XP that was not yet released.
