• VIN – Vehicle Identification Number• New vehicle sales process is VIN based• VIN accessibility is limited
– Temporary solution : printed Barcode on A4 Paper
– Problem : printing fades in the Sun
• The Challenge :– Find a specific, VIN identified vehicle in a

• Scanning barcode and RFID tag and linking them to VIN in Colmobil’sdatabase.
• RFID tag is scanned and location code is keyed in on arrival to the storage area .
• Tagging new “off the ship”vehicle with a ¾”by 4” RFID tag

• Hardware :– Intermec handheld CN3 computer – IP30 UHF RFID reader attachment – Coupled with Symbol LS-2208 barcode scanner
• Software : – Microsoft Windows Mobile 6 Operating System– Microsoft Internet Explorer for User Interface– Front end application developed with SAP Web Dynpro– Server side application developed for SAP-Portal
• Communication :– GPRS cellular VPN

Challenge No. 2 : “Through the gate”• New vehicle transfer from port to Colmobil’s storage is heavily
controlled and documented :• Import permit• Customs release• Maritime Shipping manifest• Shipment order• Port gate pass
• The documents are manually compared with the VIN and verified at the port gate
• The Challenge :– Reduce time, risk and complexity at the gate

• RFID scanners will be mounted on two 6 meter high poles located on both sides of the exit gate.
• Continuous scan of a full truck driving through the gate• On-line communication to the port gate’s systems• Electronic verification of documents vs. truck load.
